A Georgia Lowe’s employee attempted to stop shoplifters making off with $2,100 amount of merchandise, leaving her unemployed and with a black eye.
Donna Hansbrough, 68, saw three people loading up a shopping cart at a store in Rincon, about 30 minutes north of Savannah, and then leave without stopping to pay, police said.
The veteran employee then grabbed onto the cart allegedly being pushed by Takyah Berry — who slugged the older woman in the face three times, according to authorities. Berry, who was with her uncle, Joseph Berry and another man police identified as Jarmar Lawton, then made off with the goods, the Rincon Police Department said in a news release.

My local Safeway, a very nice store in a very good neighborhood, has to shut one of it’s two entrances just before sunset. Why? horrible people steal things. The open door is blocked off by a steel gate between exit and extensive booze department. Employee there says they are not allowed to stop anyone stealing things.
In our neighborhood, we have few Blacks, and they’re very nice, though some rowdy teens ran through the other night swearing at us and each other.
The big contingent of thieves? Russians. Horrible people. well-dressed young Russians go up and down the street every morning at 5 :30 a.m. with flashlights, looking into every car for something they want to steal. Young, well-dressed Russians. I’ve seen them and so have several friends. Guy who works at Safeway agrees that they are the problem.
We can hardly wait to see what the Ukranians are like. IMHO, the same as Russians.
I want my money back.
Are you in California?
Question:
If it’s only a crime to stop the thief, I witness such an event and I take the merchandise from the thief in the parking lot, is it finders keepers?

I’m an IE. I chose this field because it’s heavily male. In college, we toured a mining gear manufacturer and thought, this is the kind of area I want to end up in. I ended up in welding manufacturing. We work out our troubles, no HR involved. I’m female.
You’re rare.
My only “issue” with a female wasn’t a disagreement, but well…you know.
That’s my issue too. Most female engineers I meet are pretty laid back. We have a job to do, not worry about petty crap. Welding isn’t a clean “girl” job. LOL
The owner of a Federal Way hardware store accuses a city council candidate of shoplifting and says he has video to prove it. The person accused, Denise Yun who’s running for Council Position 7. The store’s owner, Nick Rose, said he was even more incensed after learning about the candidate, and her platform. He was able to pull one of the three hammers from her purse as she dodged out of the store; leaving a cart-load of wooden stakes behind.
“She said she wants to protect the small business from vandalism and theft, and she turns around and does the same thing?” Rose said.
Denise Yun:
Won’t be shopping at Lowes again, their attitude toward employees doesn’t assure me of any safety.
Lowes just lost my future business. And, yes, you don’t need to look at the thieves.
Caught them and the charges will be reduced with some “do over” program. Or “second chance” or “oopsy doodle - my bad”
You will find all corporate stores have the same policy.
Wonder if the employee was black if she would have been fired.
Home Depot did the exact same thing to a friend of mine in Florida, but there were no blows exchanged. My friend simply followed the thief out into the parking lot and demanded he return to the store and either return the merchandise or pay for it. My friend was fired for that, Home Depot’s policy is for employees NOT to confront thieves outside the store. My understanding is that many businesses have this policy now.
Sounds like Lowe’s needs to be bud lighted.
It won’t work. That’s the stance of any decent sized company.
I bet you could find a similar story for Home Depot.
And they are also fine with illegal Mexicans getting picked up there for contract work.
It stinks, but aside from one off mom and pop stores, we’re kind of hosed.

We wind up paying for what these thieves steal. This woman should get a raise—and a letter of praise!
I am ticked off that this is how Lowes awards employee loyalty AND the fact that WE the public have to pay higher prices to reimburse stores for what thieves get for free. Those 3 perps should be beaten to a pulp, THEN do their jail time. Saudi Arabia cuts off thieves’ hands. Maybe we should do something permanent to them as well.
