Children in some areas of England are waiting up to 18 months on average for dental general-anaesthetic treatment and teeth extractions, an investigation reveals. Some have been left with prolonged dental pain, according to information shared with BBC News.
The parents of one girl who has waited three years for extractions say the pain keeps her up at night. At the start of this year, more than 12,000 under-18s were on waiting lists for assessment or treatment at community dental service (CDS) providers, data obtained by the Liberal Democrats from the NHS Business Services Authority and shared with BBC News earlier this year reveals.
Children are referred to a CDS provider when they have tooth decay too severe to be treated in general practice. The longest average wait faced by children for general-anaesthetic treatment at a CDS provider is 80 weeks, at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.

Get on a train, boat or plane and go to a sane place that has dentists...................
Double shot of Whiskey.
Pair of Pliers.
Problem solved.
When I visited a Navajo village they told me in the old days tooth infection was one of the biggest killers. The fine dust in the desert would get into the food and wear teeth down quickly.
So yes, tooth decay can kill.
The Dine were wise enough to know socialized medicine was a bad idea.
From the sound of things, the medical and dental needs of the illegals have to come first. Tax-paying Brits just have to wait.
This is also true of housing needs as well. Illegal foreigners get first dibs.
It’s just as bad here since Obozocare. I can’t get a cleaning appt (scheduled in May) until January.
Jonathan Fagg??
Well.....he is British.
Americans are starting to believe that we should have socialized health care. So that means Medicare for everyone. It’ll be crappy. So if you want to get quality treatment, you’ll have to fly to Cancun. We’re probably 20 years away. Maybe less than that when Gavin Newsom becomes President.
A Brit I knew, who worked for Florida state government, said he kept a guest room for his relatives. He said that if you thought you had a medical problem in Brittain by the time you got to the second appointment it would likely be too late. So, when his relatives needed a doctor he’d make the appointment, pick them up at the airport and they’d have it treated and cured here.
Incidentally, there seems to be an awful lot of non-citizens working for government at all levels. When I was searching for a house, several were on the market for federal employees some of whom spoke no English. The realtor told me that even when they were overpriced that a lower offer was usually not considered because the government would buy their home if they couldn’t sell it so they could move to the next job.
I didn’t even realize they had invented dentistry in the U.K.
Yes, but it’s behind the rest of the world in technology.
The dentist asks you to take a swig of whisky first.................
Just what the libs want for our children.
I guess this why the British all appear to have screwed up smiles.
Free and worth every penny.
Socialized medicine is great!
Socialized (government run)healthcare:
Inefficient, incompetent treatment, long waiting periods to receive treatment.
Doorknob, string, tooth...some assembly required...
Doorknob, string, hold girl in place, slam door. Pain is over in a day.
To wait three years is child abuse.
