On the day President Trump announced he received a target letter from Biden prosecutor Jack Smith pertaining to the events of January 6th 2021, his Republican primary competitor Ron DeSantis was heard to echo the establishment line on the incident.
“For example, I think it was shown how he was in the White House and didn’t do anything while things were going on,” DeSantis said directly echoing the Democrat-led January 6th Committee line. He added that Trump “should have come out more forcefully,” before going on to accept that “to try to criminalize that [is] a different issue entirely,” and that having a situation where “one side [is] just constantly trying to put the other side in jail” is wrong.
Contrary to DeSantis’s claims, Trump issued a video statement on Twitter during the disorder, urging protesters: “[Y]ou have to go home now. We have to have peace. We have to have law and order. We have to respect our great people in law and order.”
Twitter took down the video and permanently suspended Trump’s account. The video was not restored even after Elon Musk reinstated the account, though it can still be viewed in the Miller Center presidential archive.

“Best thing DeSantis could have said was nothing.”
Right. I liked him as a Governor, but as a Presidential candidate he is a sellout like the rest.
Any Republican who is not outraged about the 2020 election being stolen and the Jan 6 frame-up of MAGA protesters - does not deserve to lead the Republican Party.
The stolen 2020 election should be the number 1 issue for any Republican.
How these cowardly Republicans can think they can challenge Trump, and turn a blind eye to the outrage of 2020, is beyond me.
Other than Trump, Ramaswamy is the only Republican challenger acknowledging what happened in 2020 - the rest are empty suits and not worth a second of our time.
And platitudes about “election integrity” do not count. Either come out and say the election was stolen and people are going to jail for it - or STFU.

We will be screwed. Trump in jail and Desantis reputation in tatters, probably get someone awful like Romney, Christie or Pence.
No sale on your line of logic.
I don't vote for Globalists or NeoCons, period!
They are a compromised group of cowards, and DeSantis is one of them!

and Biden will most likely be re-elected.
************
I have that same feeling in that Biden can be re-elected and
serve two years plus one day of the new term then step down.
VP Harris can then serve the remainder of the Biden term and
be elected for two full terms herself. Interesting.

DeSantis is correct. Trump’s family and friends wanted him to do or say something presidential in the moment. At least that’s what their supposed texts show. It took hours for him to respond. That's right, per all the evidence.
While the riot was going on, Trump was calling various Congressmen to taunt them over his supposed power on display.
He was reveling in the moment, the last thing he wanted was to diffuse it.

The more DeSantis runs his hole the harder I’m going to vote Trump. To bad, he went from hero to A-hole at light speed.

Sheesh. All he had to do was be a more refined version of Trump. This means in part criticizing the deep state. Any support for J6 persecution is support for the deep state. Ron is digging his own grave.

Speaking in South Carolina today, presidential candidate Ron DeSantis blamed President Trump for the events of January 6, 2021, in Washington DC saying,“I think it was shown how he was in the White House and didn’t do anything while things were going on. Should he have come out more forcefully? Of course.”
However, DeSantis affirmed he does not believe Trump’s transgressions amounted to criminal conduct. “But to try to criminalize that, that’s a different issue entirely,” the Florida governor noted.
Governor DeSantis then tacked to his preferred position that politicians should not be criminally targeted and promised if he was elected, he would do a more reach-across-the-decorum, saying “I think that we want to be in a situation where you don’t have one side just constantly trying to put the other side in jail.”
DeSantis pledging to return civility to the Dept of Justice comes on the same day the DOJ is about to deploy yet another indictment against the political opposition of the current administration. I’m not sure the civility DeSantis requires would be afforded by the institutions DeSantis supports.
WATCH:
(New York Post – Rupert Murdoch) – […] DeSantis spoke hours after Trump disclosed, he is a target of special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the events surrounding the ransacking of the Capitol.
Smith has been spearheading the DOJ’s two investigations involving Trump: one into the Capitol riot and the former president’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election result, and the other into sensitive national security material kept at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort.

Protestors entered the Capitol by 1 PM. Ashley Babbit was killed at 2:44. Trump did not tweet until 4:17 PM. Why didn’t Trump tweet at 1:30 or 2:00? Maybe Babbit would still be alive if he had responded as soon as the protesters entered the building. So while you are technically correct, so is Desantis. Trump’s response was delayed and lukewarm. Nothing he should be prosecuted for, but hardly a shining example of leadership in a crisis.

What blatant lie? That Trump could have done more to stop the riot, than spend all his time on the phone taunting other Republicans while it played out? That's a lie?

The conversation was about his twitter activity. People seem to think Trump was shut out of twitter on the 6th. He was not shut down until the 8th. If you look back on my comments, you'll see that I am NOT a Trump supporter in the least. The arguments his cult-like followers make are ludicrous.
IMHO, of course.

>>Sheesh. All he had to do was be a more refined version of Trump.
But therein lies the conundrum that the DeSantis campaign faces. Being a more refined version of Trump is a pretty lame strategy. It’s not a strong enough reason for voters to switch from Trump to him in large numbers. Most Trump supporters view Trump’s “lack of refinement” as an asset. So, it’s a pretty weak strategy which can only work if Trump is discredited by people other than him or prevented from running for office in some way.
DeSantis can’t attack Trump too hard if he’s invested in trying to be a more refined version of Trump. That’s why he has to resort to these subtle digs like slipping in a comment about Trump not acting forcefully enough on J6 while coming out against the lawfare directed at him. He does after all need to court Trump’s supporters. There are not enough anti-Trump Republicans for him to win the nomination. Anything more aggressive than the subtle swipes he currently engages in, and he blows his cover.
