It took decades to eradicate tuberculosis from the US.
I lived in a small town about 40 miles east of Ft. Smith Ark on highway 10.
6 miles south , up in the hills, was a tuberculosis center built in the 30s and 40s. It was self contained and sufficient. The state allocated hundreds and hundreds of square miles for the site. Everything was behind gates. Go in, you didn’t leave.
All doctors and staff lived there. Grew their own food, raised their meat, etc. By 1970 it was empty. I used to run around the place. The state ended up giving the land away or selling it. A huge portion was given to the Boy Scouts. They created a large camp with a dam. I was at the ceremony given by Gov. Dale Bumpers. Family friends were the caretakers so I had the run of if to.
It’s insane to let this scourge back into the country.
And people from all over the country and the world were quarantined there.
