Putin wants to attend an August summit. Host country South Africa doesn’t want to have to arrest him
The Associated Press ^ | July 16, 2023 | GERALD IMRAY

Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to attend an economic summit in South Africa next month and the country is desperately trying to persuade him to stay away to avoid the legal and diplomatic fallout over his international arrest warrant, South Africa’s deputy president said in an interview with a news website on Friday.

As a signatory to the treaty establishing the International Criminal Court, South Africa is obliged to arrest Putin on an indictment the court issued against the Russian leader in March for war crimes involving the abduction of children from Ukraine.

Moscow has dismissed the warrant. South African authorities are likely to breach the treaty and not arrest Putin, but some opposition parties, rights groups and legal activists have said he should be arrested and have threatened to do it themselves, raising security issues for the BRICS summit in Johannesburg.

(snip)

The Kremlin has not said that Putin will attend and the brief rebellion in Russia by the Wagner private military group appeared to make it unlikely he would travel after such a serious threat to his rule.

But Russia does want Putin to attend alongside Chinese leader Xi Jinping and the other presidents, South Africa Deputy President Paul Mashatile said in the interview with News24, a top South African news outlet. All the leaders were invited to the summit before the indictment against Putin was issued, South Africa has said.

“It’s a big dilemma for us. Of course, we cannot arrest him,” Mashatile said. “It’s almost like you invite your friend to your house, and then arrest them. That’s why for us, his not coming is the best solution. The Russians are not happy, though. They want him to come.”

There’s more to our past than you may know of, along with more ‘discourse’ between the mods and TR. So I was just giving him a bit of ‘advice’. After all, he’s damn lucky to even be posting here, so it’s best he stay in his lane and let the person that I’m discussing things with respond...rather than trying to (again) hijack the thread.

“So, have you selected which of the BRICS countries you will call home? I don’t think any of them have desirable climate; except, perhaps, for the Atlantic coast of Brazil. “

Oh, GET LOST, you so full of it. The Atlantic coast of Brazil is a damn tropical wasteland. I get so tired of people playing it up. Spend 5 minutes there and you’ll likely get fried from the sun, or robbed at gunpoint.

Anyway, as to me, you probably have a point, but I’ll stick around until the Homo-Globalists have full power here, but that may be just around the corner, after the next election.

“Hi Bob, I missed the memo where you were now a Moderator. When did that happen?”

Hi Megan, I missed you too. I’m just trying to help him keep from getting permanently banned, as he tends to slide into nasty personal attacks when he’s not being careful.

“No worries, BobL - 10:00 CST comes quickly, and the barking will cease till the morrow.”

Thanks. Hopefully an En Banc hearing in the 5th Circuit will get things more civilized here, as they were last week.

Thought SA was kissing up to Putin to join BRICS.

South Africa is the S in BRICS...they've been a member since 2010. 🙄

What did you think about the USA when it illegally invaded Libya? Or when it bombed Serbia? How about taking out Saddam for Weapons of Mass Destruction that he did not have? I could site a lot more examples of US warmongering. Putin has he reasons for going into the Ukraine and his reasons are at least as good as ours were for the above examples I sited. Ukraine is a very corrupt nation full of real honest to G*d Nazis and Zelensky is a crook.

You’re right about getting robbed at gunpoint in Brazil; it is a very violent place, with lots of corruption (in fact, all five of the BRICS countries are more corrupt than the US).

Since you like links so much, here is one:

https://www.factsinstitute.com/ranking/most-corrupt-countries-in-the-world/

Eight of the top ten LEAST corrupt countries in the world are in Western and Northern Europe.

You said the Atlantic coast of Brazil is a “damn tropical wasteland.” While that might arguably apply to the sections of the northeastern coast of Brazil, the majority of Brazil’s Atlantic coast is pretty nice.

So, give it some thought before you bolt. Still, you had previously extolled the virtues of the Russian civil defense system; so, perhaps, you will opt to go there. However, if I were you I’d be looking south of the equator.

“Ukraine is a very corrupt nation full of real honest to G*d Nazis and Zelensky is a crook.”

Well, it appears Ukraine is not as corrupt as Russia. Please see the following link:

A fascist kangaroo court with zero legitimacy and a puppet of a western nations. Russia should issue arrest warrants for the chief justices of the ICC, put a bounty on their heads, taken dead or alive. Turnabout is fair play.

I oppose the US actions in Libya and Syria. In Serbia and Kosovo we were on the wrong side.

None of which excuses Putin’s invasions of Ukraine, Moldova, or Georgia.

If people in those countries want the right to speak and be Russian they can move to Russia. Elsewise they are hostile colonists and enemy aliens and should be treated accordingly.

Just like the Albanian Muslims who colonized Kosovo and stole it from the Serbs.

“However, if I were you I’d be looking south of the equator.”

Well, unlike the people in power who are pushing as hard as they can to get World War 3, I cannot afford a hideaway in New Zealand for when the successfully accomplish their goal. So I’m stuck having to fight to get this Ukraine crap behind us and helping to get a new set of Americans, led by Trump, who will actually TALK TO THE RUSSIANS, rather than indict them for made-up crimes.

Not for the first time:

Kursk Demarcation, 1918

Establishment of the administrative border between the RSFSR and Ukrainian SSR, 1927

The Transfer of Crimea from Soviet Russia to Soviet Ukraine, 1954

Helsinki Agreement, 1975

Belovezha Accords, 1991 (Reinforced Helsinki in light of the dissolution of the USSR)

Establishment of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), 1991

Crimean autonomy referendum recognition, 1991

Budapest Memorandum (the ACTUAL first Minsk agreement), 1993

The Partition Treaty on the Status and Conditions of the Black Sea Fleet, 1997

Russian–Ukrainian Friendship Treaty, also 1997

The Treaty Between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on the Russian-Ukrainian State Border, 2093 (signed by Putin himself, lasted less than a year before Russia violated it over the Tuzla Spit).

Oh...

How’s your Chinese?

https://www.gov.cn/jrzg/2013-12/05/content_2543057.htm

Excerpt, translated:

“China speaks highly of Ukraine’s unilateral abandonment of nuclear weapons and its accession to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons signed on July 1, 1968 as a non-nuclear-weapon state. According to UN Security Council Resolution 984 and the statement of the Chinese government on providing security guarantees to Ukraine on December 4, 1994, the Chinese side promised unconditionally not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine, which is a non-nuclear-weapon state, and to be aggressed by the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine or in case of threat of such aggression, provide corresponding security guarantees to Ukraine.”

That’s China’s reinforcement of Budapest. So, Putin violated Ukrainian independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within weeks of China signing security guarantees to Ukraine that effectively mean, if there’s a nuclear incident in Ukraine and the finger points at Russia, guess what?

China joins the UK and USA in delivering its security guarantees.

Ever wondered why the CSTO ‘Stans have been flipping the bird to Putin ever since Zaporozhzhia and Chernobyl were occupied?

China maybe advised them that their slow walked support for Russia has a red line, and if Russia crosses it, China will sever all support for Russia.

This is the photo indicating the greatest damage to the Hiway bridge in question. There is another bridge there, a railway bridge.

If the railway bridge is taken out and many are reporting it will be, the Russian logistics into the area north of Crimea is in trouble. The troops will be totally without supply. The in depth, four level, trench fortifications are worthless if there are no supplies for the troops

The russian occupation is down to one railway bridge that is in range of the Ukranian weapons
