Michael Shellenberger - Why Progressives Ruin Cities (video)
youtube.com ^ | Michael Shellenberger

Posted on 07/16/2023 5:41:58 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

Description: This is a very interesting video presentation by Michael Shellenberger of how Wokesters kill cities by enabling drug addicts, mental illness, and homelessness. Michael Shellenberger's thesis is that Wokesters need victims as part of their Marxist indoctrination. Having an identified group of victims in their environment gives them a sense of purpose.

Note that there is absolutely NO plan to rescue these victims from the problems that plague them. In fact, rescuing these victims would be an anathema to the Wokesters because it would remove a victim and thereby remove a source of pleasure/sense of purpose.

Shellenberger refers to this need of victims as a mass case of Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome which most of us know as a condition whereby a parent creates a fantasy illness for a child to get attention from doctors and provide the public appearance and internal sense of fulfillment to the parent as a "caregiver."

The talk runs for about an hour and then the Q and A begins. Both the talk and the Q&A are very interesting.

“researchers estimated that their ultra-white paint could reduce air conditioning use by up to 70 percent in hot cities like Reno, Nevada, and Phoenix, Arizona”

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/innovation/ultra-white-paint-may-someday-replace-air-conditioning-180977560/

“they also developed an earlier ultra-white paint made from calcium carbonate that reflected 95.5 percent of sunlight.”

“We found that if you put different particle sizes in your paint, then each particle size can scatter and reflect different wavelengths and, all together, they reflect the entire spectrum of wavelengths in sunlight,”

In theory compact cities could be built in areas normally hotter than coastal California that would be painted and planted to have California climates.

Crystal Lagoons makes ocean blue bodies of water.

California needs to clean up its act.

Vanguardism, detailed by Lenin his 1902 essay “What Is To Be Done.” Basically it’s the view that the oppressed are too crushed down by their oppression to realize that they’re oppressed, so they must be led by a “vanguard” of enlightened intellectuals who understand things

Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?

Come on now
I hear you’re feeling down
Well, I can ease your pain
And get you on your feet again

This is what the D’s have always done. It’s straight out of their playbook and is nothing new.

Appeal to peoples’ ‘compassion’ and say that these policies are because they ‘care so much’ when all they do is keep people that need help exactly where they are, to perpetuate the need for their ‘compassionate’ policies - and anyone that disagrees is ‘heartless’. They do it for votes, all about power and money under the veil of ‘being a good person’, while being exactly the opposite.

The shame is that many doing the voting believe the good intentions, while the people in power know exactly what they’re doing. They are evil.

Look at the drug fueled Zombie Apocalypse in Kensington(Philly). Heroin/Fentanyl capital of East Coast. The Democrats who have run Philadelphia for 80 years do nothing to stop it. NOTHING.

Completely missing the main component - there's money to be made. An industry is crafted around this and engaged in never solving but managing this ordeal. Waste of time to listen to this guy unless he competently delves into the aspect of following the money.

Thank you for the citation, unknown to me until today. Lenin wrote far too much....

From the Wiki, citing Marxists.org.: "Class political consciousness can be brought to the workers only from without; that is, only from outside the economic struggle, from outside the sphere of relations between workers and employers. The sphere from which alone it is possible to obtain this knowledge is the sphere of relationships (of all classes and strata) to the state and the government, the sphere of the interrelations between all classes."

I find it interesting from more than a century later that there is a reading of this, quite Obama-like. "... from outside the economic struggle" in essentially within "the state and the government" suggests what we see these days from the Democrats, a continual stoking of the potential and real fires they, not "the workers," so stoke. Identity politics in all its forms. The Clintons. Them Obamas. The Bidens. And so on. All the while they amass for themselves while setting class struggles on fire.

I am somewhat amused that the Wiki also notes: "Lenin states that Karl Marx and Engels themselves, the very founders of modern scientific socialism, belonged to this bourgeois intelligentsia."

As did ultimately "bourgeois" Lenin, when one considers the pamphleteering and more.

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Lenin_bibliography

As has obviously "bourgeois" Soros, another in what Lenin would tell us belongs to "bourgeois intelligentsia."

Source: https://www.georgesoros.com/books/

When one thinks further through this, so many of the corruptocrats leaving office get book deals, and book deals and more book deals now worth "bourgeois intelligentsia" millions.

So the whole thing reduces down to succeeding generations of "vanguard," all producing nothing but words and books and books and words and speeches aplenty -- to set fires in society and all for money. Big bucks now....

Thanks for the citation and link. Bets wishes.

And in a matter of ironic coincidence, just posted to the forum, one reads: "One reason for the sharp increase in Sotomayor's investments and overall wealth is the money she's made from writing books. .. "

"Sotomayor's wealth has skyrocketed since joining Supreme Court, raising ethics concerns"

Source: https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4168289/posts

That "bourgeois intelligentsia" Vanguard is busy grifting while being the progressive "from outside the sphere of relations between workers and employers" American Left.

"Bourgeois intelligentsia" RINOs included ....

I don't think that's accurate. Looking only at the money ignores the minor players.

There are many components here:

Politicians

Bureacrats

Big Money Supporters

Related Institutions

Voters

Victims

Victim's Families

Politicians, Bureaucrats, Big Money Supporters, and Related Institutions all see the money.

The Voters, Victims, and Victim's Families get the evil end of the stick. They are out of the financial loop. They don't see any of the money.

“IOW, the plan by ‘wokesters’ (aka: progressives and democrats) is working magnificently.”

But this begs the question, why is it working so well, or at all? How have they been able to get in positions of power to implement and double down on those putrid policies, when most people would know off the bat that they would be disasters?

How and why have we non-woke let these maggots control society and our lives?

The answer is the same as a household infested with real maggots. The residents don’t care enough to exterminate or at least control the maggots. They’d rather live with the maggots than get off their butts and do something about them.

Well, guess who are the lazy, non-caring “residents” of the “house” (country) we live in that put up with the maggots (the wokesters) that infest and have taken over our “house”?

But this begs the question, why is it working so well, or at all?

The wokeness is mostly a blue cities/blue states problem, and guess who lives there? The dependent society, which needs the blue politicians to take care of them. We have close to 50% of people dependent on some form of government program or other. we cannot get them to learn how damaging the blue states/cities policies are to them, but, those that don't agree with the blue policies can and do something about it, and that is, move to non-blue areas, such as Florida and Texas. Not all can make the move, thus, those blue areas will just get even worse over time.

What's ignorant is listening to an hour's worth of opinion - unless he can enumerate specific methods and targets for action it's a waste of time. It's not a hobby to those Politicians, Bureaucrats, Big Money Supporters, and Related Institutions, it's income. They're not getting out of bed for it unless there's a payday in it for them.
