“[Former UK PM] Boris Johnson’s transportation secretary said owning a car was outdated ’20th-century thinking’. They are rationing vehicle use. It’s very simple. You can look at Cuba to see how that turned out; you are going to have a lot of used cars.”

Most of us here on FR, other than the EV shills, have known that from the very beginning.

“Gas Car Cancellation Is Intended to End Private Transport”

Exactly, we know this but there is a generation of brainwashed kids who don’t even know they are being loaded onto trains.

Eliminating private ownership altogether, I’d reject. But there will come a day when self-driving cars will replace ownership for many. Like calling an uber or lyft. You ask, it comes to pick you up and drop you off. Then it moves on to do the same for someone else. Like one of those robotic vacuum cleaners, it will take itself to charge during non-peak hours or as needed. The only hitch to this concept is the spread of disease, and people doing damage or littering up the car but I imagine these cars would have sensors and cameras to penalize users.

Most cars sit idle most of the time. For most people it’s an inefficient use of capital when you really think about it. It sits in your driveway or workplace for 16 hours a day. It’s been convenient and liberating for people no doubt about it. But, as I have looked, Tesla will lease you a model 3 for about $450 a month (but, $5000 deposit). So I can imagine if you had partial ownership in a self-driving Tesla “club” for example you can have access to a car anytime you want at a very small fraction of ownership or leasing.

Of course, whether it is mandated or created by private companies the use of cars on demand by app will be a means of surveillance and potentially a “right” that government can revoke if your social credit score is too low.

But there are companies right now that rent cars by the month. Not like your typical car-rental company but I imagine they will get in on that action soon enough. You don’t have to finance or lease or car or get stuck in a contract. You pay for a month, and renew it monthly, and can change vehicles at any time. Comes with insurance and mileage.

If cars were a new invention, they would never let the proles drive them.

Hey come on.

I like conspiracy theories as much as the next guy, but there are lots of places where electric cars will make enormous financial sense.

They are already a rapidly-growing part of the world’s transportation, and constantly improving in efficiency and cost.

Soon they will overtake gas in costs (all costs) in lots of places.

While sure, we have lots of places where electric just won’t be efficient for years and years, it is already becoming better, in some - lots of southern big cities for example.

Just flat out, on cost.

I don’t think we are going to see a big fleet of used cars. The tyrants leave no tool I used: they’ll stop renewing gas station permits when they’re court, and stop issuing new ones

The have known for years electric vehicles cannot work at large scale. They want us out of our gasoline-powered vehicles and then they will announce electric is unworkable. Then, we have lost our freedom to travel.

Most people will not buy electric cars ever, because of their cost and because they’re not feasible in many regions and applications.

So we’re going to play a game of chicken. Either the larger public will submit to the blunt force of the collectivists, or the collectivists will blink and admit that electric cars are as dumb as Khrushchev’s corn experiment and Mao’s Great Leap Forward.

Keep in mind the collectivists don’t care how many people die.

Look in my old posts and you’ll see I made this same claim repeatedly. There are no certain-to-be-rivate electronic communications so the only way to have a private conversation with someone is face-to-face.

But if the two of you lack the means to meet somewhere, there can be no face-to-face. We’re having battery-only EVs pushed on us because (for either the flaws inherent in the species or government meddling in the supporting systems) the government knows the change-over will curtail our mobility. Plus, electronic vehicles announce their location to the world at every opportunity, so they offer no privacy in travel.

I’ve also noted before that one element that was decisive in the Women’s Suffrage Movement occurring when it did was the advent of the “safety bicycle.” Because before widespread availability of the telephone, before women were allowed to drive motor cars, and because few women had a horse (and stable), the surest way for women to congregate for political organizing was by riding a safety bicycle, which was cheap, used no fuel, and was far faster than walking.

El Rushbo said it many times, gasoline is the fuel of democracy.
