Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign has fired roughly a dozen staffers — and more are expected in the coming weeks as he shakes up his big-money political operations after less than two months on the campaign trail.
Those who were let go were described to NBC News by a source familiar as mid-level staffers across several departments whose departures were related to cutting costs. The exits come after the departures of David Abrams and Tucker Obenshain, veterans of DeSantis’ political orbit, which were first reported by Politico.
DeSantis has $12 million in the bank, but of that $3 million can be used only during the general election. And about $14 million of his total $12 million second quarter haul came from donors who gave the maximum legal amount. In other words, roughly two-thirds of his early donors will not be able to give directly to his campaign for the duration of the race.
Never Back Down, the pro-DeSantis super PAC, has said it will spend up to $200 million to boost the governor's White House bid and has a significantly larger staff than the official campaign.

>> He got some really bad advice to bite Trump’s hand.
Yup. He could have (and should have):
A. Staunchly and loyally supported President Trump
B. Continued his EXCELLENT governance of the state of Florida
C. Helped to ensure Florida goes big for President Trump in the primary and, after he is nominated, in the general
D. Effed with Jackass Smith in any way he could to screw over the persecution in PDJT’s Florida star chamber trial
E. Been an effective voice for conservatism and PDJT — and gotten a LOT of face time and name recognition along the way
F. Be sitting in the cat bird’s seat come 2028, and run for POTUS with PDJT’s blessing and full support.
But no! He had to overplay his hand, and let his inflated opinion of his own fitness to be POTUS and his ego and his HORRIBLE advisors get to his head.
And now he’s screwed, and Florida is at risk.
Stupid, stupid, STUPID choice. RdS flushed a big chunk of his future down the crapper, IMO. So sad.
DeSantis campaign is flailing, so they fire some low level staffers when the problem is the top level decision making, starting with the candidate himself.
This would be like Bud Lite firing some of their sales reps. The problem is higher up the line !
“Meh...she was still tweeting about DeSantis ‘stellar’ speech at the TN GOP Statesman dinner an hour ago, I don’t think she’s going anywhere.”
Sadly, I don’t think he’s capable of getting rid of her - just not possible for him.
If you think the stories have been bad this past week, wait until a bunch of bitter, fired staffers start talking to reporters about the implosion. https://t.co/PQHVhigASK pic.twitter.com/QFPQdu8M7X— Taylor Budowich (@TayFromCA) July 16, 2023
“Trump 2.0 simply makes Gov. DeSantis irrelevant in 2024.”
I would vote for DeSantis in the general election, but I wish he had waited until 2028 to run.
Trump needs to have the second term that was denied to him by ballot fraud. Of course, the left is going to double down on the fraud in 2024 and the GOP has done little in the past almost 3 years to combat that fraud. It’s almost as if they already know which seats they will be allowed to win so see no need to work to actually win the Presidency or the Senate, or to keep the House.
For the GOP to actively work against the President chosen by the people in 2016 showed me exactly whose side those such as McConnell is on. RNC leader Ronna McDaniels is letting a young, long-haired hard working guy out-do the party on voter registrations and engagements. Meanwhile, any donations the GOP party receives is going to high-dollar hotels and cock-tail parties.
Trump is great at business decisions but lousy at political appointee decisions. He let Christie talk him into appointing Wray, and supported McDaniel against the advice of those that had brought him success in 2016. Maybe he should let Catturd of Twitter fame make those type of decisions for him.
However, I would rather have him at the helm than Biden, Harris, or Newsom.
Trump didn’t have turnover. He hired specific people to run certain tasks and when they were finished, they left.
Unlike DeathSantis, Trump isn’t a career politician.
Lots of ways to explain it but Trump like almost all campaigners end up losing staff during their campaigns. No surprise, no drama, usually. My big picture point was simply that this was no big deal. In my opinion, a big yawn. Again, though, I will cheer when Christina Peshaw is gone.
This is a big deal though. You don’t have turnover so early.
He trusted the wrong people. Live, learn, and come back with a vengeance.
DeSantis is a horrible candidate on the national level.
DeSantis campaign goals were never to dethrone Trump. It was shaping the debate and challenging him from the right.
The strategy has worked and you see the daylight between the positions of the two on a number of issues.
Really? Is there an article about this?
Won’t work.
The problem is DeSantis.
He mentioned it tonight.
DeSantis can’t compete with Trump 2.0. NOBODY can.
Ron, we liked you. We really did. You’re a great governor. But you couldn’t resist the lure of MSM and never-Trumpers, and decided to double-cross Orange Man Great. Been nice knowing you. Time to depress the flusher.
“Ron DeSantis fires roughly a dozen staffers in a campaign shake-up”
hmmm ... maybe the next batch of desantis “advisers” can make food that the dogs will eat ... naaaahhhh ...
A lot of folks wasting money on DeSantis. The more exposure, the less people like him.
DeSantis must have some mental lightweights working for his campaign.

Used to be a Tea Party guy.
Very pro Trump.
