Ron DeSantis zings Trump for skipping events: ‘Nobody is entitled’ to GOP nod
NY Post ^ | 07/13/2023 | Ryan King

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has taken aim squarely at Donald Trump, with the former president set to miss a major forum in Iowa Friday and dangling the prospect of playing hooky from next month’s first debate. “Nobody is entitled to this nomination,” DeSantis told conservative Boston radio host Howie Carr Wednesday. “You have got to earn the nomination and doing things like the Family Leader event in Iowa, doing things like these debates, they’re important parts of the process.” Trump has been noncommittal about attending the first Republican showdown, hosted by Fox News and slated for Aug. 23 in Milwaukee. Earlier this week, organizers of a key Des Moines cattle call — the Family Leadership Summit — revealed that the former president won’t attend that event.

I hope he does, for it would help Desantis close the gap.

The more DeSantis is seen and speaks, the more his polls go down.

If Trump skips - and he should until it's down to people with 10% or more..

No one will (relatively) watch.

Ouch???

Are you kidding??

The headline says “zings” and you fall for it hook, line, and sinker.

No, DeSamtis really wanting to say: The only way one becomes entitled is to approach his presence.

That is a better headline.

it would help Desantis close the gap.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha ……. That’s funny. The 60% or more that are supporting Pres Trump aren’t going anywhere.

If anything, the debates could cause DeSantis to lose some support.

Trump skipping the debates won’t give DeSantis a personality.

“...You have got to earn the nomination...”

Seems to me with all the polling data out there giving Trump a substantial lead in the GOP side based upon his past performance, he also has to have the intelligence not to do things that call for him to lose the nomination.

Going into a direct debate with other candidates that are not as concerned with the peoples needs as of their needs to defeat Trump so they then can decide what they are going to do for the people that hire them is an assassination, not a debate. Their platform should be their badge and trying to get an opponent on national coverage just to beat him/her whether they have good ideas or not, is not a platform. It is a selfish effort to get a job without an proof they deserve it.

“He was the best that the republicans could hope for in 2016 and in 2020, and now in 2024. He served the country fantastically and people expect the same from him in 2024”.

Actually, Trump’s record as President was mixed.

Positives:

•He put forth great Supreme Court picks
•His energy policy was great for the country
•Stayed out of endless wars
•Managed to get tax cuts through congress
•Held inflation in check

Negatives:

•Revolving door chaos in his administration due to numerous poor personnel selections
•Insulted McCain (“Real heroes don’t get captured”), and thus failed to repeal and replace ObamaCare
•Spent money like a drunken sailor, driving up the national debt to unprecedented levels
•Put Fauci and Birx in charge of pandemic guidance
•Lost the House resoundingly in 2018 and put Pelosi in charge, who thwarted his agenda at every turn

His campaign today is not about long term restoration of the country. Rather, it’s about achieving personal vindication. Trump cares only about Trump. His narcissism leads him to destroy and vilify some of the most successful GOP governors in the nation (DeSantis, Kim Reynolds and Brian Kemp)

Trump does. Sorry, but he is our president in our minds since 2022 was a coup by stealing the election. We do not need to have some mental masturbation of ideas and some kind of eGOP primary. We need to get to fighting and Trump is our leader. Trump may have selected some bad choices, but he is learning to fight or go to jail.

Debates by Democrat moderators are a waste of time. He can get more traction from a rally.

The Iowa thing is interesting only because Tucker is hosting. Trump doesn’t need to debate this far out. DeSantis needs to show how he can perform, not in contrast with Trump, but among the alternatives to Trump. Is he entitled to be the challenger or is he oversold as inevitable?

Trump is not entitled to the nomination but people know their former president. They don’t know DeSantis, Nikki, Tim Scott and others as well.

People were unhappy W didn’t attend the earliest debates in 2000 because he was the perceived front runner but W wasn’t a former POTUS.

They are skipping TPUSA, except Vivek, because they see it as another Trump rally.

Which POTUS was as successful as Trump? Look at what Trump accomplished:

  1. Gas price per gallon was about $2.30;
  2. Inflation about 1.4%, mortgage rates were half of what they are now;
  3. Unemployment was low before Covid and before Blue Governors shut everything down and we were in the midst of a V-shape recovery until January 22, 2021;
  4. Tax decrease; tax laws promoted small businesses as well as large;
  5. US enjoyed energy independence - No Green Agenda, no war on energy, No Paris Treaty;
  6. No war in Ukraine, no threat of nuclear war, NATO paid its way;
  7. China was quiet and we were winning the trade war;
  8. US companies were bringing home the jobs due to well executed tax treatments;
  9. Peace in the Middle East aka Abraham Accords; US Embassy moved to Jerusalem; and Iran was isolated.
  10. Got three non-left “I don't know what a woman is” Supreme Court Justices on the bench allowing Roe vs Wade to be overturned.

Who the heck can accomplish the above in four years while being impeached twice and investigated by Obama's Weaponized Agencies?

Tucker is supposedly moderator of the Iowa thing. A FoxNews debate will be focused on attacking Trump like most of the others.

At this point he has nothing to gain in a debate. Trump is running as a defacto incumbent. Maybe it’s a winning strategy or maybe it’ll marginalize him.

I still think Trump should host his own debate the same night as the RNC debates, with a fair, non-MSM moderator, and give candidates a choice on which to attend.
