Trump puts Iowa victory at risk with attack on GOP governor
The Hill ^ | July 12, 2023 | by Brett Samuels

Former President Trump is taking a risk in targeting Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R), picking a fight with an influential and well-liked figure in the first state on next year’s GOP presidential primary calendar.

Trump narrowly finished second in the Iowa caucuses in 2016 but went on to win the GOP nomination, something he could easily repeat this cycle. However, an underwhelming performance in the Hawkeye State in 2024 could open the door to a viable challenger building momentum early in the primary calendar...

Some in the state found the criticism of Reynolds to be uncalled for and the type of undisciplined move that has hurt Trump in the past.

“Ok… so we shouldn’t remain neutral?” tweeted Cody Hoefert, a former chairman of the Iowa GOP. “Well then after this I’m out on the former President. It’s time for fresh leadership or shall I say actual leadership. I am open to support a new fresh leader who inspires others.”

I recall Rush expressing the opinion that establishment Republicans anonymously fed stories to the Hill. Have not placed trust in their revelations since.

Thanks!

I’ll be using your reality when fecal matter poses as news!

Again, leftists are on the look-out to prevent Trump from losing votes. They can be so generous.

Or, some people could see the supposed spat as an opportunity to try to hurt Trump under the guise of being concerned for Trump, try to make themselves appear objective.

“The Hill hates Trump and is just trying to stir up things against him. And, they are sooo transparent.”

Funny.... how the Trump Only’s never seem to recognize when a media outlet is “just trying to stir things up” against DeSantis. Odd, that. Transparency seems to work only in one direction with them.

“It no longer applies, since over the years, the Commies have infiltrated the GOP with moles.”

Oh, it still applies all right. Especially considering how it turns off a goodly portion of the right whenever Trump viciously attacks GOPers like DeSantis, while doing a “hands off” stance against the usual suspect leftists. Reagan knew that obvious fact and acted on it by not bashing his fellow GOPers. Trump, not so much. Trump ain’t no Reagan.

He’s determined to be a martyr and lose, scorched earth on the Republican party. And he’ll blame the loss on everyone but himself.

Re: 24 - President Reagan had one important advantage - he was eminently likable.

He did a daily radio commentary for three or so years before he announced his candidacy in 1979. He wrote his notes out - long hand - Kiron Skinner did a book on his commentaries.

I cannot see either President Trump or Governor DeSantis doing that.

It was also unusual to see Reagan attacking a candidate vs. attacking the issues.

Like it or not, attacking the candidate instead of the issue is going to turn some people off. Likewise, some people believe that is important to do.

We will see how the strategies work out.

The Hill is certainly a leftist rag, but what they published in this case is a direct quotation from someone they called a former Iowa GOP leader, not “an anonymous source”. Either they are lying or that particular man has dumped Trump. It is checkable if anyone cares to spend the time to do it. I’m busy working.

Notice that The Hill didn't even quote what Trump said about Reynolds.

Instead they describe Trump's comment about Reynolds as an "attack".

Trump didn't "attack" the Iowa Governor.

Trump simply responded to Reynolds' refusal to endorse Trump by describing what Reynolds did.

Trump said:

If describing Reynolds actions sounds offensive, then her actions are.

“It was also unusual to see Reagan attacking a candidate vs. attacking the issues.”

Reagan was a class act all the way. And even though we will never see another man like him.... I just don’t believe that the American voting public has changed so drastically since then ...that they actually like or approve of the juvenile name-calling and bashing of their fellow Republican candidates. That is more reminiscent of the idiot left and their childish penchant for vitriol and petty politics.

I’ll say it again... that kind of tactics reeks of leftist methods re: the politics of personal destruction. And most mature voters on the right are not ok with it.

Your memory of 1980 is obviously off. Bush was the favorite of the GOP establishment, and that primary was a LOT more vicious than many remember.

He named Bush as his VP candidate over the objections of Nancy, who wanted Kemp. Reagan felt he needed to unify the Party. That election rout didn’t break until the debate with about a month to go in the election.

Reynolds is showing her RINO spots. When was the last time The Hill ever said something nice about Trump? One is either with him or against him. TRUMP OR NO ONE. MAGA.

Thanks, FreeReign.

That’s the reason I miss Rush so much. I’d hit “pause” on my thinking about such a headline, and wait to hear what was REALLY going on tomorrow from Rush.

You done good. I only wish the message could have reached 20 million folks... :-)

Oh please, I am from Iowa and love the governor. I understand what Trump is doing and it doesn’t bother me. I will vote for him in a heartbeat. MOST of the Freepers know he had the last election stolen from him. I can see his point of view. He should not even have to be running now because he should be in office. He feels American patriots should be standing behind him all the way because of this. Rinos, (And there are many on this website) are the gutless capitulators that constantly want to make peace with democrats while they get knifed in the back time and time again.

What an idiot, does Trump think he is king or God, demanding life-long fealty from everyone?! He is disloyal to the bone, disrespectful, and by scorched earth, his actions are destroying the party. Tell me one vote he gained by trashing the popular sitting governor of Iowa? None. And how many did he lose? Does he not want to win in Iowa or already realize he’s going to lose? Does he think his Always Trump vote will be enough to win the election?
