A man accused of shooting and injuring a Duquesne police officer is getting out of jail.
The accused shooter, Shyheim Berry, has been in the Allegheny County Jail since he was charged in the officer-involved shooting in February.
Tuesday, a judge granted him bond which means he will be released from jail soon, likely within the next 48 hours.
On Feb. 22, the officer was responding to a report of a man opening fire on an Uber driver.
The officer said he pulled up in an unmarked police cruiser that was several feet away from Berry. Investigators said Berry was armed with a mini assault rifle.
The officer said gunfire was exchanged at the same time, after he told Berry to drop his gun.
Berry was hit in the leg and was later found hiding in a basement before being taken into custody.
“In my experience, an aggravated assault shooting case generally speaking a person would probably make bail so the fact the victim is a police officer is probably part of the reason why the accuse was in jail for so long to begin with,” said attorney Blaine Jones.
Berry’s attorney, Casey White, says he was defending himself because Berry thought he was under attack and had no idea it was a police officer firing at him.
Judge Anthony Mariani granted Berry a non-monetary bond with electric home monitoring with strict bond conditions.

aka-—too pretty.
Two points, please.
1. I am familiar with the city of Duquesne, PA. Some of my older relatives once lived there. At one time it was a solid ethnic working class town. No more. Now it’s just another Pittsburgh suburban ghetto in the making.
2. The cop said he pulled up in an unmarked police car. That’s a huge problem! If I’m standing on a corner in Duquesne PA and if a car pulls up, I’m not thinking it’s the police. It doesn’t matter what the driver might say.
It’s Duquesne. So I’m reasonably thinking it’s a robbery, or a hit. So how’s about using marked police cars, okay?
By the time the monitoring company calls 911 and the call-taker asks their life’s history the dude will have plugged his next victim(s).
Direct GPS monitoring to Dispatch? Game changer!
Mini assault rifle? Draco?
Again Governor Dinwiddie has a chance to comment regarding a Duquesne officer.
Photo of perp....
Two possibilities:
1) tries to turn his life around and will show up as promised.
2) Bail bondsman and court baffled that there is now word on his whereabouts except for an unsigned colorful post card from the Cayman Islands in his handwriting.
A request for the extradition of an individual must be sent to the Governor of the Cayman Islands. If the request is being made by a British Overseas Territory, it must be made by or on behalf of the Governor of that territory.
Clint Eastwood falsely accused of a beating in the Dirty Harry movies:
“I didn’t do that to him. He looks too good.”
Ok... The guy seems to have first shot at an Uber driver. Then the police came and probably did *not* immediately short at him but he shot at them anyway.
Was he not charged with shooting at the Uber driver? Does that not count for anything?

And what on earth is a mini assault weapon?
