Trudeau is building wind-farms to make hydrogen to sell to the EU ,how does he get it to the EU, magic ,LOL

Aging Wheels on YouTube got a Toyota fuel cell car to test.
It wasn’t impressive.

One must use other fuel)s to produce hydrogen. Currently more than 90 percent of "clean" hydrogen comes from burning hydrocarbons, so "clean?" Nope. Just marketing, so that some politically connected types can get more government money to "invest."
If any of this "green" stuff were actually profitable, there would be no need for government subsidies....
To: Red Badger
Making this stuff is not the issue.
Storing, transporting, and using it is where the pesky details lie. When your material is literally the smallest molecule in existence, it’s tough to contain it. It’s also good at blowing stuff up In spectacular fireballs.

Back in the 1970s or so, “Scientific American” — back in the days when they did actual science, instead of climate catastrophe-obsessed propaganda — ran an article titled “The Hydrogen Economy.”
The article suggested “surplus electrical generation” could be pressed to make hydrogen from water, for vehicle fuel and other uses, and explored various considerations in doin so — pros and cons.
Back then, it made some sense.
To: Red Badger
Know what burning hydrogen yields?
Carbon Dioxide and a little water vapor.
Carbon Dioxide.
Good luck with that.

From the article: "The process of manufacturing green hydrogen — known as electrolysis — converts water into hydrogen using renewable power, and the hydrogen it generates is nearly 14 times as expensive as natural gas to generate the same amount of power."
True that. And hydrogen as energy storage from electrolysis is horribly inefficient, at least a 50% loss of power (for every 100kWh used to generate hydrogen, at most 50kWh can be obtained from the fuel cell that later consumes hydrogen when you need power).
Thus, there is only use case I can see even a chance of electrolysis being worth it. That is for long term backup storage in a very remote area (read: no grid power or natural gas service) that gets plenty of sun most of the year (to run the electrolyzer) so the gas can be generated and stored for winter use or rainy times that last weeks. The idea being that battery storage, though more efficient, is more expensive when talking about large storage amounts. With hydrogen storage, you can expand storage fairly cheaply by adding tanks.

I have zero problem with alternative energy or dirty, filthy “fossil” fuel energy. I don’t like as a taxpayer to be forced into “investing” in things stupid chits in Washington think are the best. They only hinder the development of new energy technologies through the myopic idea that there are only two variables in investing; money and regulating current technologies out of existence. Crony capitalism doesn’t work because it gives money to idiots.
When people who never worked a real job or built anything in their lives give money to other people who never successfully built anything you are guaranteed failure.

the cost of green hydrogen Green? It's a colorless gas. And none of its excitation states emit green light, either.
Hydrogen is not a green gas.
That would be chlorine.
Maybe these ecoweenies should breathe chlorine.

“If these things made economic or common sense, people would be doing them,” Kish told the DCNF. “They don’t, so the government is mandating and subsidizing them while knee-capping energy sources they can afford.”Not to worry, the CBO will be by shortly to say it's a great program and the Senate Republican leadership will join in glorious song about its benefits.
