Ron DeSantis' Campaign Is in Deep Trouble
Newsweek ^ | 07/03/2023 | Ewan Power

Having previously been touted as the GOP's next presidential hopeful, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' White House bid has been floundering over the past few months, with even Republican figures casting doubt on the future of his campaign.

DeSantis's unfavorable rating among potential voters has been steadily rising since late March, when he recorded a split 39.3 percent favorable rating. This includes the time after he confirmed his 2024 bid in late May in an error-strewn Twitter Space online announcement.

DeSantis is an excellent Governor. A 2028 run would have made me very happy.

When you start out your campaign breaking your promise to the people who voted for you to be governor for 4 years .... it’s not a good sign.

When will everybody learn that career politicians will do what their rich donors want them to do? I hate big government but election campaigns financed solely by government funds would go long way to restore power to the people. Rich donors would lose control, so it will never happen.

DeSantis can still be a player in 2028.
He’s young, a good governor, and smart enough to learn from his mistakes.

Also, in 2028 he won’t be in a primary with the 45th President.

I never said it would be easy, but having Trump out of the picture makes it easier.

My position is Trump will be done after 2024, if he wins the 22nd Amendment will be waiting at the end of his 2nd term. If he loses, Republican voters will move on to other candidates for 2028.

I don’t think any Republican can win and get in to the white house. Trump included.

I don't either, but I can hope.

I said before January that either Trump would declare an insurrection or we would never have another Republican President. I suppose we could still get a deep state Rino for show but I doubt even that.

Anyone without their head up their rectum could clearly see what happened in Venezuela was exactly what was happening here. The years fighting over voter ID and cleaned up voter rolls, along with open borders made honest elections impossible.

“He lost support by running. His career is over.”

perhaps ... not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing ... i used to think very highly of desantis because of his amazing conservative accomplishments in florida ... of course, it was almost a no-brainer for him given the staunchly conservative GOP majorities he had in the florida legislature ...

nonetheless, desantis’ campaign for the presidency was filled with unforced errors, self-foot shootings, alignment with GOPe/RINO/anti-trump gazillionaires, oligarchs, fake conservatives of the McRomBush ilk and other assorted anti-liberty forces ...

SO ... what to make of all of that? ... did desantis simply reveal who he really was all along? was he a weak leader not ready for national prime time and reliant upon GOPe/RINO/McRomBush “advisors”? ... or something else? ... still, whatever is going on with desantis, it’s NOT a good look ...

My hope is that Trump is able to enact a substantial reform of both our government and our electoral system so we don’t have to go back, after 4 years of Trump, to picking from the handful of politicians the Dems and GOP let us choose from. Otherwise his election will change little in the long run.

I’m not sure exactly how you reform our 2-party system (of course, in many ways they operate as one party). Perhaps existing anti-trust legislation or RICO statutes could be applied to breaking up the big money control of the two parties. Or maybe new legislation is required. I don’t know the answer but we need to start thinking about it.

My impression is that a lot of people think highly of DeSantis until the first time they hear one of his campaign speeches.

After hearing one of his speeches what went through my head was this guy don’t have it!

No that’s not the way it works.

Biden ignores the voters and the dems support him because they all believe rightly that the fix is in.

Biden has the entire federal government working to get himself elected with the support of federally funded non profits. Plus they control the voting apparatus in all the contested states. They sealed that in 2022. Plus dems will have about 7 million guest voters from south of the border.

Republicans can still win but they’ll need 20 million more voters than in 2020 plus a lot of democrats who don’t come out to vote.

But either way, win or lose, the margin of winning and losing will not be a function of which republican candidate gets the nod for the general.

I don’t know.

He seemed great. Then he throws in with the swamp.

Weird.

You and me agree 100%. I voted for DeSantis twice for Florida governor. Regardless if Trump wins or loses in 2024, nomination would be a walk in for RDS in 2028. Now he will lose some MAGA voters in 2028 even if he gets nominated.

RDS blew it big time. But give the guy a break. He is not allowed to go against his sugar daddy’s. RDS can not remain in politics without his sugar daddy’s.

Republicans and centrists who blithely assumed the economy would just keep rolling along with record low inflation, record cheap gas (inflation adjusted), no unnecessary foreign wars, affordable steak dinners, etc now have their tits in the wringer with Biden.

I will bet half my social security check, those same voters will have no problem with mean tweets in 2024. They have suffered enough with Biden.

That’s it in a nutshell.

This may sound ridiculous, but in viewing Ron in the Parade in New Hampshire, I noticed that his hand that was supposed to be holding his daughter’s little hand was totally LIMP.

I don’t know why that bothered me, but I sense a coolness to his children. Maybe I’m wrong, but I am very aware of sincere displays of affection for the children of politicians.

He should have stuck to his lane. He could have got Trump’s endorsement in 2028.

I am in Florida for 7 years. Florida is same as it was 7 years ago. Great place to live. DeSantis has changed nothing.
