The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved Alef Aeronautics’ flying car, the “Model A,” a Special Airworthiness Certification, signifying the green light for road and air testing.
Alef Aeronautics, based in San Mateo, has become the first company worldwide to navigate the regulatory complexities surrounding airborne vehicles.
The ‘Model A’ is operated entirely on electric power with an optional hydrogen power upgrade at a higher price.
This flying car, which can be driven on roads like any conventional vehicle, has been designed for vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), enabling it to fly like an aircraft.

ping!!
John Denver would approve.
There are several reasons why they dont put meshes/screens in front of props/jet engines.
I do not think long term this will be a viable design as it currently is.
Might be useful at trimming hard to reach hedges....
George Jetson always seemed to be a bit of an idiot.
No way I’d fly in one of his cars.
[Though, I WAS PROMISED in the 50s....]
I would never drive/fly it.
But I’m sure Biden and his greenie grifters will funnel tons of money to this “business.”
Private Pilot License, Multi Engine, Glider, Commercial Pilot, Instructor, UK and USA tickets. I will take a cab instead of this cross bred flying car. If you have an electrical failure it sure as hell can not auto rotate like a chopper, it has no wings and can not glide. It would be a falling brick.
I have had a total electrical failure in a light single. My engine kept running as its electrical power is from its magnetos. I landed at the nearest airport to cancel my IFR clearance as I had no radios or anything electrical working.
I did not shut down my engine. I bought a Sectional and flew to my destination VFR and took it to the airport shop to be repaired. If said same happened to that “flying brick” it would be a hole in the ground.
Reminds me of the sub that tried to visit the Titanic.
Flying Cars are probably about as practical as legalized, off the shelf
Flamethrowers for private ownership.
Rare exceptions where it makes sense but mostly just another very expensive and potentially very dangerous toy for grownups.
I want my electric flying car
Don’t feel like You got gypped, they told us the same thing in the 70’s.
re: That first pic of the Post. I found that “Tic-Tac” the F-18 Pilot saw.
My first thought, too.
Heck I am still waiting for COLD FUSION which was supoosed to deliver unlimited energy. That was 40 years ago.
And I still send money to cancer foundation who has been trying to find a cure for over 50 years.
And when will driverless cars be available for reasonable price and reasonable insurance premiums?
110 miles range flying? On batteries?
Go ahead, pull the other one.
One has to worry about getting into crashes caused by unsafe drivers but only on the roads.
Now we’d have to worry about crashes going thru the roofs of our honest.
No friggin thank you.
Before you buy...l Ask about the AC and heater. Oh yeah... And can you carry a set of golf clubs... Enjoy the sputtering of the sales rep.
Wow! Wow I want to get one of those right after I visit the Titanic in a cheap, homemade submersible with a game controller to operate it. .
