Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s impressive first televised town hall

NewsNation's 90-minute town hall broadcast live from Chicago Wednesday with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. was an intellectually stimulating and emotionally moving event.  Despite the hour of mostly put-downs that preceded it (hosted by Chris Cuomo with featured guest Bill O'Reilly) and the half-hour of analysis that followed it (Chris Cuomo again with a panel that included former Wisconsin Republican governor Scott Walker, the most fair and objective), Kennedy more than met the challenging questions presented to him by town hall host Elizabeth Vargas and a number of pre-selected Democrat and independent voters in Chicago, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

By the end of the ninety minutes of town hall, I kept thinking of this statement attributed to Ronald Reagan: "The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally — not a 20 percent traitor."

I found myself agreeing with Kennedy at least 80% of the time.

Even when, near the end, Kennedy countered a particularly obnoxious and challenging gay voter from South Carolina who attempted to get him off stride and sandbag him with a snide accusation, Kennedy pledged his lifelong support of LGBT rights (which he described as "LGBQT"), I could sympathize with what Kennedy was trying to do: in essence, to reach out in the darkness.  Too bad he wasn't asked about his feelings about the current move to give special rights to transgender people, as in allowing them to participate in sporting events with people of the opposite sex.

The issues at hand were much larger and more significant, as the hour and a half provided Kennedy with time to expand on the points that he's made in his half-dozen live interviews on FOX News since he declared for president two months ago.

Yes, but his position on Affirmative action (vs merit admissions) and his position on gun control are both losers. It shows a serious lack of understanding and also reveals a political stance that looks like it will capture a lot of democrats.

But he lost me with these statements.

How can 80 yo Biden possibly run again when his senility is on full display now? Refuse to debate? Refuse to take questions?

I don’t vote in rat primaries.

Sometimes I do to make them think I'm one of them and keep me off of the commies' radar.

Other than his anti gun stand he’d be a great Republican.

Communism is the new conservatism, I guess.

He hadn’t lost you before? You’ve been around here to see all of the things he has said and done over the years. Those comments were quite mild compared to other things he has said.

Between dementia-addled, practically retarded, and ideologically erring, I’ll take the latter. At least there’s hope there.

A utterly horrible human being and so is that Cheryl Hines .
He verbally tormented his first wife ( three kids with) for years and she had a nervous breakdown and then killed herself .
He then had her body exhumed from the Kennedy grave site and told her sister to get the body . All of this evil their three kids had to live thru .
He deserves an extra hit spot in hell .

Regarding Climate Change et al—I would like for him to expound more on what he views the governemnt’s role. He has said that it should not be a top down solution

Kennedy is an environmental fascist, believing corporations and even non-profit think tanks should be eliminated by the government for arguing against climate change.

Environmental activist Robert Kennedy Jr. sent a secret legal memo to then-state Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, urging him to ban ExxonMobil from doing business in New York for allegedly misleading the public for decades about climate change.

The 17-page Jan. 5, 2016, memo obtained by The Post comes under the heading, “Revocation of Exxon Mobil Authority to do Business in New York” and talks about imposing a “corporate death penalty” on the oil giant.

The document, obtained through a legal request by the Competitive Enterprise Institute, came just weeks after the former attorney launched a securities probe on whether ExxonMobil misled investors on the costs of climate change.

Corporations must obtain a certificate of authority to operate in New York if they were incorporated elsewhere.

“Exxon Mobil’s subterfuge amounts to a crime against humanity,” said the document from the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic, co-founded by Kennedy (right). “By delaying government action for a quarter century, Exxon Mobil has caused massive and predictable environmental damage in New York State.”

ExxonMobil has more than 1,000 gas stations in New York and does $4 billion per year in sales, accounting for 21 percent of the auto- fuels market in the state, according to the memo.

Kennedy confirmed that he helped craft the legal memo and had numerous conversations with Schneiderman about it.

Asked if New York will eventually ban Exxon, Kennedy said, “I hope so.”

Then he should be taken to task for this and any other unorthodox “climate solutions”

Well in the sense that he was my favorite Dem. And I also don’t like Fauci.

Right now I still like Trump, and I am starting to like Vivik.

I think he means restore it to its original content. I would suggest remove all amendments from 11 on and rewrite the 2nd in clearer language.
