Harvard Hints It Will Use Personal Essays To Circumvent Court Ruling

Harvard University hinted that it will turn to application essays to preserve its system of racial preferences in admissions, after the Supreme Court struck down the school’s race-based system as unconstitutional.

While the Court rejected affirmative action, Harvard president Lawrence S. Bacow noted that it also "ruled that colleges and universities may consider in admissions decisions ‘an applicant’s discussion of how race affected his or her life, be it through discrimination, inspiration, or otherwise.’"

"We will certainly comply with the Court’s decision," Bacow and other Harvard administrators wrote in a Thursday statement.

Harvard president-elect Claudine Gay released a video statement saying that the school was still "working to understand this decision and its implications for our policies."

"While we don’t have all the answers about what’s next, we do know that we will move forward together," she said.

The essays could provide a loophole for advocates of race-based admissions, some of whom have vowed to fight the ruling. In a speech on Thursday, President Joe Biden said "we can’t let this decision be the last word" on affirmative action, and said he would direct the Department of Education to come up with alternatives to ensure racial diversity on college campuses.

But the move could also violate the Court’s ruling, which held that college admissions essays could not be used directly as a tool to continue race-based admissions.

I agree with your statement. I’ve had enough.

Race relations were very good and improving until the Bamster sought to divide our nation once again along racial lines.

“The special treatment will be because the person has a personal story to tell...NOT THE COLOR OF HIS/HER SKIN.”

If the “personal story” makes it clear that the applicant is among a favored race/gender/sexual persuasion, said applicant will have a 99.9% better chance of being accepted - with a full-ride scholarship for those who check all 3 boxes.

This (Harvard) ‘educational’ institution has always been billed as one of the premier ‘law’ institutions in the Country. Their illogicl opposition to the Court’s ruling today tells you buckets about the decay of the Americn Repubic as it relates to Harvard and identifies them as a wicked pernicious enemy on society.

Way to open yourselves up for lawsuits, Harvard. Not so smart are ya?

Just like healthcare, colleges don’t care about this ruling… it pays federal money to ignore it. Interesting that the USSC intentionally gave them a gianormous loophole.

The problem is—there are actually more Asians with perfect SATs and GPAs in the US than there are seats at Harvard. The elite schools need to expand by buying up nearby failing college campuses. UCLA to its credit has recently done so. Remember the Ivy League schools are quite tiny. They should expand. In the meantime let’s focus on the state public flagships instead. There are millions of high achieving high school seniors each year. The issue is not qualifications, but too few elite seats.

I’m in CA. Interestingly, UC and Asians have a mutual love. But while UC also loves blacks, they choose to attend elsewhere. Check the stats—Asians apply, are admitted, and enroll more than others. Even when admitted to UC, both blacks and whites decline those offers more than Asians do.

And I think Latinos are already the majority of UC students—or will be soon—they are the majority of CA high school seniors.

The largest block in the UCs is still Asian, last I looked. State may be different. CA has two university systems.

They can't check a box anymore so instead they get to write a few barely literate paragraphs to whine about their lives and how their great-great grandmother might have been a slave.

This is a scam.

It seems that a degree from Harvard is less meaningful as time passes.

Only checked boxes and checked boxes with bank accounts get into Harvard, not the best.
