Germany offers to station 4,000 troops in Lithuania to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank

Germany is willing to send around 4,000 troops to Lithuania on a permanent basis to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said during a visit in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius

...He said infrastructure and facilities will need to be created to accommodate the soldiers and their families.

In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine early last year, the German government pledged last June to have a combat brigade ready to defend Lithuania in the event of an attack..

Until now, however, there have been differences over whether the soldiers should be permanently stationed in Lithuania or only sent there temporarily for exercises. The Lithuanian government has demanded a permanent presence, while the German government for a long time was very reluctant to do that.

Pistorius explained the German government’s decision to offer the brigade to Lithuania was not only because of Russia’s war on Ukraine, but also because of Germany’s own history, saying that until the end of the Cold War, Germany was the country on NATO’s eastern flank.

“We were the ones who could always rely on our NATO partners to stand by us in an emergency and to stand up and fight with us for our freedom and security in Germany. Now, Poland and the Baltic countries are particularly exposed,

“We as the Federal Republic of Germany explicitly acknowledge our responsibility and our obligation as a NATO member state, as the largest economy in Europe, to stand up for the protection of the eastern flank,” Pistorius said.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda welcomed the announcement and said his country wants to build up the needed infrastructure by 2026.

“We have a strong political willingness in Lithuania to find the necessary financial resources to be able to finance the infrastructural needs,”

Sibling recently got a DNA test done and results came back with no German just “Germanic” tribes at a lower percent which could mean one of a few different nations. My mom was told she was at least half. But there’s quite a bit of Scandi instead. What this has to do with anything nothing lol but a part of me is relieved to have no ties to the Nazis. Nothing wrong with ancient or modern Germans tho ..

Militarily it is a speed bump.

Politically, an attack on Lithuania that kills or wounds the Germans draws Germany into the conflict, i.e. they are hostages.

Lithuania is a NATO member.

Germany is a NATO member.

An attack on Lithuania is going to result in an article V invocation of the treaty, and whoever attacked Lithuania is going to find themselves at war with the entire NATO alliance.

Ask yourself another question -

If the German people have and can afford to station troops beyond their border how come we still have troops (that we pay for) stationed in Germany?

We pay for EVERYTHING to protect them and God forbid one of our vehicles drives 12 inches on a German farm field - Uncle Sugar cuts them a check immediately.

I am NOT making that up. Send them a bill or bring them home. That is my .02.

Don't tell anyone (especially on FR), but all this crap that is going on is because so many Human individuals (not races or tribes), are so arrogant, self important and filled with hubris that they think they are gods, and are incensed that ANYONE ELSE would have the temerity to tell them: Leave Me and Mine Alone.

I particularly enjoy their surprise when they find out what the "OR ELSE" meant.

"You’d think they were the French."

Oddly, when you compare the militaries of the major European armies, France is pretty robust, (much more so than even Britain), and Germany is the sick man of the lot.

>>Hitler should have claimed he was protecting them from the Russians.

On June 22, 1941, the territory of the Lithuanian SSR was invaded by two advancing German army groups: Army Group North, which took over western and northern Lithuania, and Army Group Centre, which took over most of the Vilnius Region. The first attacks were carried out by the Luftwaffe against Lithuanian cities and claimed lives of some 4,000 civilians.[19] Most Russian aircraft were destroyed on the ground. Germans rapidly advanced, encountering only sporadic resistance from the Soviets and assistance from the Lithuanians, who viewed them as liberators and hoped that the Germans would re-establish their independence or at least autonomy.

Lithuanians took up arms in an anti-Soviet and pro-Independence revolt. Groups of men organized spontaneously and took control of strategic objects (such as railroads, bridges, communication equipment, warehouses of food and equipment) protecting them from potential Soviet sabotage. Kaunas was taken by the rebels of the Lithuanian Activist Front (LAF). Kazys Škirpa, leader of LAF, had been preparing for the uprising since at least March 1941. The activists proclaimed Lithuanian independence and established the Provisional Government of Lithuania on June 23. Vilnius was taken by soldiers of the 29th Lithuanian Territorial Corps, former soldiers of the independent Lithuanian Army, who deserted from the Red Army. Smaller, less organized groups emerged in other cities and the countryside.

The Battle of Raseiniai began June 23 as Soviets attempted to mount a counterattack, reinforced by tanks, but were heavily defeated by the 27th.[20] It is estimated that the uprising involved some 16,000[21]–30,000 people and claimed lives of about 600 Lithuanians[21] and 5,000 Soviet activists. On June 24, Germans entered both Kaunas and Vilnius without a fight.[22] Within a week, the Germans sustained 3,362 losses, but controlled the entire country.[23]

Russian cheerleaders are naive if they think Russia will stop at Ukraine

I'm not a cheerleader for Russia but I suspect that this war was presented to both Russia, Ukraine and NATO as "an opportunity".

They are NOT going to stop at Ukraine. They will involve Transnistria, officially the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, in order to land lock Ukraine and use those mountains as a easier border to defend.

The Baltics will "threaten" Kaliningrad Oblast and Russia will have to "defend" them by getting Belarus to cut them off from NATO.

We have American Army airborne troops as well as Tier 1 trainers in the area for Polish, Ukrainian, Baltic and German troops. That's our "trip wire" in order to get to join the fun in eastern Europe.

So everyone that wants to have a nice World War 3 party, step on up.

All you need to know is that every RINO, democrat, deep state bureaucrat, alphabet agency and every flag officer that wants a nice DOD consulting job with Raytheon/Lockheed etc....is just aching to get this thing going.... and of course we need to destroy China, cuz.... well we just gotta.

Look at the fat bodies that are the Intstagram warriors and "influencers" on TikTok... representing our armed forces.... put them in a Ukrainian trench for a month.

None of their families are going to have to pay the blood tax.... only those patriotic Americans that like to fight will die for this country.... and that's what they want.... to get rid of those people.

Good points, hilarious too!

Remember a few days ago when the FR Youkasphere erupted in mass almost-orgasm over the Wagner "rebellion" bit? There was one self-assured, breathless post and comment after the other about how Wagner was on its way to topple Hitler V Putin. They're 300Km from Moscow! They're 200Km from Moscow!!!! They're 120 Km from Moscow!! Oh-ooh-oh-yes oh-yes oh-oh-OHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Then, like your mom walking in on you having "fun" with your gal when you were a teenager, pfft. . . . fun over.

Bwahahaha!

A few weeks earlier, FR Youkazoids were almost monolithic in believing the fantasy that Wagner had been essentially destroyed in Bakhmut. Yet, there it was, a few weeks later, magically resurrected and racing to Moscow to topple Putin?

In fact, the FR Queen Of the Youkazoids put up a typical fantasy post after Bakhmut was captured by Wagner that screeched, "Wagner Has Fled From Bakhmut!!! or something to that effect." Just totally nuts. And that was days after it became clear, by any objective measure, that Wagner had flayed the Youcraynian Army to pieces there.

Ukrainians were the most dedicated, joyous and vicious torturers and murderers of Jews and among the most sadistic non-German concentration guards in WWII.

Lithuanians were a close second.
