The Titanic tourist submersible that vanished on a trip to the 111-year-old shipwreck at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean is believed to have run out of oxygen — but authorities pushed ahead with the search operation Thursday morning.
OceanGate Expeditions, which operates the Titan sub and whose CEO, Stockton Rush, is aboard the missing vessel, told the Coast Guard on Sunday evening that the vehicle was equipped with only 96 hours of oxygen, with the timer running out around 7:08 a.m. Thursday.
The status of the five passengers aboard the ill-fated trip remains unclear as US and Canadian officials work around the clock to attempt to locate the missing Titan sub 900 miles east of Cape Cod.
The Coast Guard on Thursday morning confirmed that a remote-operated vehicle “has reached the sea floor” and started searching for the missing sub.

Fatigue failure? Could be.
Given their cavalier attitude about safety, I would be surprised if they took fatigue into consideration.
I did the Atlantis underwater sub tour in Kona, Hawaii where the bottom was maybe 30 feet down, the sub went 15-20 feet, we all had our own seats and a really nice view of coral and marine life through the windows for like 45 minutes. That was more than enough for me.
Yes, that’s the ticket! Or maybe they should have turned to Black Americans to find the sub! After all, they wuz kangs, and they built America!
I agree, plus who knows what positive contributions these people made to the world as a whole and monetary donation they may have given. I don’t know why rich people get such a bad rap when many are philanthropists. I am content with my modest lifestyle and have no desire to covet another’s money or wish them harm.
And acetate adhesives (Speculation as to the type of adhesive) tend to be extremely strong in load bearing (Pulling, hanging) but are weaker when twisting (Torsional loading). If the titanium end-cap shrank just a little bit over several dive cycles it could crack at the bond resulting in a catastrophic failure.
Once again, I wasn’t there, I don’t know what adhesive they used, I was a rare books librarian not a structural engineer. But what I am saying is not really secret.
evidenced by the USN’s refusal to participate in the ‘rescue’ (because they knew the sub imploded).

For others:
They knew because their sonar buoys heard the implosion and the position was immediately know and the cause identified.
They could say nothing because it would reveal the extent of their undersea listening means, compromising national security.
Money or no money, it is natural thing for people to try and rescue people in distress or danger. Blame and fault used to come after the fact.
Or it used to be anyway.
The guy in NYC isn’t a billionaire.
Yep, that would be expected I suppose.
The implosion event would be loud and identifiable. The Navy has hydrophones all over the place. Did anybody admit to hearing anything?
Now that would not surprise me. The American public is treated like mushrooms by our government, left in the dark and fed BS.
I was fortunate to experience immersion in a Titanic submersible. I watched James Cameron’s movie Titanic.
“Life isn’t fair but deliberate actions don’t fall into that category, IMHO.”
Exactly right.
If it will make you feel better, they're not billionaires anymore. They're not anything anymore except random chemicals dispersing in a salt water solution.
I considered that a post-SOSUS network operated by the Navy could have picked up an implosion... but where did you see/read that the Navy “refused” to participate?
ashes to ashes, dust to dust, molecules in saline to molecules in saline.
but where did you see/read that the Navy “refused” to participate?

ask logi_cal869 who made that statement
Agree. Money or no money is right. I was referring to those who point the money out.
It is possible to seal shafts and pipes with O-Rings for pressures well above 5000 PSI. Remember that water jet cutters operate at 60,000 PSI or so. The point here is that high pressures can be dealt with very small or no voids. Submarine air voids are large and surrounded with something that can be distorted at high pressures. Any distortion in shape will continue to distort until it fails. The joints between dissimilar materials are were leaks are going to start. Leaks at those pressures erode away material. Those seals will fail suddenly.
