Kremlin official suggests Russia could one day try to reclaim Alaska from the US

A Russian official this week threatened the US over the freezing of Russian assets, urging it to remember that Alaska was once part of Russia's territory.

"Let America always remember: there is a part of its territory that is Russia — Alaska," Vyacheslav Volodin, a Putin ally and speaker of the Russian parliament's lower house, said on Wednesday, according to multiple media outlets.

"When they attempt to appropriate our assets abroad, they should be aware that we also have something to claim back," Volodin added.

In other hawkish comments made on Wednesday, Dmitry Medvedev, the deputy secretary of Russia's Security Council, posted a long tirade on Telegram in which he slammed "any attempts to create tribunals or courts" to investigate Russia's actions in Ukraine.

"It won't work with Russia, they know it well," Medvedev wrote. "That's why the rotten dogs of war are barking in such a disgusting way."

Warning that it would be "absurd" to try to "punish a country with the largest nuclear potential," Medvedev also slammed the US for attempting to "spread chaos and destruction across the world for the sake of 'true democracy.'

"The entire US history since the times of subjugation of the native Indian population represents a series of bloody wars," Medvedev wrote, referencing other US actions such as its bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II and its involvement in the Vietnam War.

"Was anyone held responsible for those crimes? What tribunal condemned the sea of blood spilled by the U.S. there?" Medvedev asked.

Medvedev's comments were not the first time the Russians threatened Ukraine's allies with nuclear warfare. In May, a Russian propagandist warned that a nuclear strike could wipe out the UK and Ireland.

I do not see it like “you” because I think for myself. Ukraine is easily one of the most corrupt governments in the west. Ukraine is no saint and no ally to free peoples.

This is not a black and white issue, we have two bad actors, Ukraine was hosting a myriad of Bio labs for the US and laundering tons of money for corrupt government officials across the globe. Get off the MSM and the US news and find out for your self.

Both Russia and Ukraine are bad, the only support we should be giving is humanitarian aid for civilians caught in the crossfire.

Keep in mind it is possible for a bad government to do the right thing just as much as it is for a good government to do the wrong thing.

I am not a Putin fan but can understand why he would not be happy about US funded Bio labs on is boarder via Ukraine.

OK—let us review our history.

Napoleon and Hitler had delusions of conquering Russia.

Our current crop of xenophobes are incapable of learning.

Somebody should ask the Dutch if they want New York City back.

Even Old New York was once New Amsterdam.

I was fishing with a Russian buddy on sat. Catching fish, drinking beers, sitting in my wooldridge, talking about the world. Now, my buddy is super high class, deeply Orthodox, escaped Russia when in fell apart 30 some years back. Citizenship meant alot to him and has achieved the American dream. I was surprised to hear his worries about nuclear war with Russia over Ukraine. I said no way, it would be the end of both countries. He then reminded about the end of the second world war and that we used them on Japan. Something to always remember.

You know, Alaskans are becoming more American everyday; Russia will never prevail here; too Americanized actually.

Yes, we did buy Alaska, but “fair and square” is the issue. As always in these nonsensical discussions, the hinge for the argument is that Tzar Alexander II did not have the authority to sell Alaska to the U.S. in the first place. Any counterargument only leads one further down the rabbit hole. The same was said about the Louisiana Purchase: namely, that Napoleon lacked the authority to sell what was Spanish territory to the U.S., thus making the proper owner Spain. This was no academic argument. The Treaty of Ghent, which ended the War of 1812, contained some puzzling language which looked harmless but which the American delegates could not see into. As it turned out, the British fought and lost the Battle of New Orleans after the treaty was ratified, but had they won, the seemly innocuous language in the Treaty would have allowed them to remain in posession of the city using the same argument.

“You’re a genocidal nutjob.”

You’re on the side of the regime that keeps threatening nuclear war ten times a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

“we used them on Japan. Something to always remember.”

yes we did ...

And remember Obama said we could absorb a couple of nuke hits ..
I don't think our current administration or the european guys would strike back with nukes if putin uses a couple small ones in ukrain.
And I think that's what putin thinks too.

very dangerous situation building over there.
