Ukraine said its forces were advancing on several axes in their counteroffensive but were struggling to counter Russian air and artillery superiority hobbling its assaults in the east and south.
Now into its second week, Ukraine’s ambitious attempt to take back Russian-occupied land is proving to be a hard slog against dense minefields and well-prepared defenses. After Ukraine’s first probing attacks yielded mixed results, its forces have mostly paused their advances in recent days as commanders take stock of the past two weeks and analyze ways to punch through Russian lines without taking huge losses.
Russia has taken advantage of its superior air power and Kyiv’s limited air defenses to strike Ukrainian armored columns and stop several attacks, destroying some of the sophisticated Western weaponry Ukraine is fielding.

Go for it!
Oh, I forgot that you’re part of the OTHER-PEOPLE’S-MONEY and OTHER-PEOPLE’S-BLOOD crowd.
it’s not 4 or 5X the price
that’s more Russian disinfo
the gas is sold at the World price, and the shipping costs - when spread out over the millions of cubic meters capacity on every LNG ship - are almost nothing
Europe is doing just fine without Russian oil and gas ... there’s no need to go back to funding the Russian War Machine
Think getting ready for the last helicopter out of Saigon, or the last transport plane out of Kabul.
Of the two long term scenarios -- kill Russia, or let Ukraine be diminished -- some in the mainstream media seem to be messaging the latter, while the Nuland types are urging the former.
This is also an indication that the current administration is divided against itself, in the same way. The battles may not be bloody, but they sure as heck will be "bloody." And unlike the PR from the thugs in the Ukraine and the thugs in Russia, the thugs in our government will do their war behind closed doors, so that we mere citizens will not see. So does it seem.
“We’ve sanctioned enough countries that the dollar will lose its reserve currency status.”
Feel free to transfer your USD savings into whatever ‘reserve currency’ you wish.
Even Putin kept his savings in USD.
They pay 4 to 5 times the price. And they were forced to because we blew Nordstream. That’s pure mafia. But congrats.
Slava America!
Russia’s economy isn’t growing
oil and gas accounted for 1/3 of its revenues before the war, and half of that came from Europe
so now that Russia is shut out from Europe, its economy has basically shrunk by about 15%
and no, it’s not being made up by the meagre “sales to China” or “sales to India” ... that’s more Russian BS
like many police-state dictatorships, they cover for it by subsidizing food and gasoline prices, so it APPEARS that the economy is going well
I suspect you have few average income friends in Europe. Our friends are not "doing just fine." Or you have a funny definition of what "doing just fine" is.....
Check out the chart over a number of years. Doing fine does not describe our old neighbors' experiences. About doubled form 2016 to end of 2022.
See: "What German households pay for electricity"

Then there's "German industry to pay 40% more for energy than pre-crisis"
https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/german-industry-pay-40-more-energy-than-pre-crisis-study-says-2023-01-30/
Deutsche Welle adds: "Household energy expenditure rose in Germany by 39.1% compared to the previous year, more than four times overall inflation. Heating oil (up 87%) and natural gas (64.8%) climbed most sharply, electricity prices overall rose 20.1%. For drivers, petroleum and diesel prices at the pumps rose by 26.8%. "

“hope Russia is enjoying them sanctions”
Actually the sanctions gave Russia & China the impetus to go ahead and attempt to unseat the dollar as the world reserve currency.
hasn’t been unseated yet, buddy
and besides, there’s nothing to unseat it
Slava NOOB!
“Russia’s economy isn’t growing”
I didn’t say their economy was growing, I said that the WORLD BANK said that Russia’s economy is growing.
If you don’t like that, make up a poster and go to DC to protest the World Bank. Otherwise quit making crap up just because your side FAILED in its attempt to bring Russia to its knees.
It is time for conservatives to understand that we too can wage war the way the DNC does, e.g., one person at time go to Target and destroy a $100 worth of merchandise, or Starbucks and open up the coffee bags, throw away the lids on tumblers, etc.
These people were never netural when it came to hating Christians or non-gays. These sick politically active corporations need to be driven from our communities. They enable pedifilies and homosexuality - they need to run out of business.
It fascinates me that much within threads on Free Republic involves assertions without citations and mis-quoted stuff, of which you write, as if stirring the pot is a game. How many times have I seen "LOL" as a comment on some thread discussing people dying? Yuck, yuck.
Rooskie GDP took an 8% hit in 2021-22 but is expected to grow .04% this year. In other words, the bottom was hit.
As with everything else w/ this war, expectations for the doom of Roosha are six months too late.
Agreed, however the best way is to boycott them. Starve them. I no longer shop at Target, buy Bud, Yuengling, Kohls, Home Depot, frequent only fast food outlets like Chic Fillet, and don’t fly the major airlines as they are all woke.
Christian companies get my money first, then neutral companies in that order. Anything connected to the US government or NGO’s get zilch. It takes time to research the business’s but quite worthwhile.
—”I said that the WORLD BANK said that Russia’s economy is growing.”
Do you make the BS up as you type, or does your handler feed it to you?
“World Bank Russia economy
According to the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), 2022 was a bad year for the Russian economy. It is estimated that in 2022, Russia’s gross domestic product (GDP) dropped by 2.1%. Russia’s economy may continue to shrink in 2023.May 4, 2023”
The rest of the BRICs are quite happy to trade with Russia.

On that note, 30 countries have applied for entrance into the Brics-bodes not well for the US.
