Abandoned stores, streets overtaken by the homeless and drug-addled, theft so rampant that CANDY is locked away: Welcome to San Francisco's ghost town downtown
UK Daily Mail ^ | June 18 2023 | UTH STYLES and LEWIS PENNOCK

A photo plastered on the empty windows shows it as it used to be: a colorful branch of Gap surrounded by crowds of cheerful tourists and not a drug addict or scrap of litter in sight.

Today, San Francisco's once bustling Union Square and downtown area is a shadow of its former self: rows of empty stores, sparse crowds even on peak weekend shopping days and nearby hotels – including a huge Hilton - unable to cover their mortgage payments.

The historic Flood Building, a survivor of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, stands largely empty: Gap has gone along with nearly every other business in the property with the exception of a tired branch of Dr. Martens and an Urban Outfitters store offering 70 per cent discounts.

From one of the most beautiful and visited cities in the world, to a shithole in less than five years.

Even the homeless will have to leave San Francisco, after it doesn’t have enough infrastructure in business and tax-payers to support even a government. Unless the destruction is stopped soon, San Francisco will become a ghost town.

Heh. True.

Don’t get me staahhhhhhhted. Fuhhhhhhhgeddddabout it.

In the early 90s I went through a room where my two little nephews were watching an animated series. The intrepid environmentally conscious group of young people discovered a corporate boss deliberately polluting the river. Kids were one black, one Asian, one female.
He was caught and arrested.

He looked like Karl Rove, Roger Ailes or Rush Limbaugh, bald, heavy set and in a fancy suit.

I knew years later the nephews would be always Dem voting Leftists someday. True, they are today.

TV works.

So sad how the left completely destroys everything around them.

My parents used to love going into San Francisco when my dad was stationed at Alameda NAS. My brother and I were real little, but there were lots of trustworthy babysitters back then. My parents would cross the bay for theater, concerts, stand up comedy shows, dinners at favorite restaurants… Sometimes they took us two rugrats for daytime activities such as festivals or baseball games.

Even when I worked in the Bay Area in 2016-2017 for a minute, while SF had definitely become a leftist hellhole, the downtown area, Union Square, Maiden Lane, Fisherman’s Wharf were all still bustling and thriving.

The destruction appears to be about complete now.

That doesn’t sound very attractive when 100 per cent discounts are also available.

Look, this is America. You get to choose between 70% and 100%! ;-)

I grew up in and love the Bay Area because it has always been so beautiful.

I was planning an expensive vacation to Pacific Heights and the Embarcadero Waterfront near the Giants’ Stadium.

Are those area also trashed and dangerous?

The people with this mindset ruined Oregon and now more are coming determined to make it worse. The last true Native Oregonian Democrats voted for Tom McCall.<p.

“What could have possibly gone wrong? This isn’t what I voted for. I’ll move to Eugene Oregon and vote the people I like. I know they will get it right this time.”

They need to pass a law that forbids shops from closing in these areas! Shades of Atlas Shrugged.

"$15.3 billion has been set aside to address the problem"

"set aside"?????? = stolen from the people who work.

The Homeless Industrial Complex is a bottomless pit of leftist organizations. The Left pays nonprofits to lobby, protest, and threaten the same government that funds them. Over the last few years there have been several Kalifornia stories about housing and shelter for the homeless. They tout taking over a rundown hotel and creating housing. The only problem is that Kalifornia has many, many 'Big Guys' who absolutely have to get their 10%. Some of those hotel conversions cost....wait for it.....$600,000 PER ROOM. I'm sure Gavin, Pelousy, etc collected their 10%.

"This hell hole of decadence should be allowed to collapse. Then it should be covered over with a layer of sand."

Patience, SF is overdue for another major earth quake that will solve the problem.
