OAKLAND, Calif. - Vandals sliced through thick cables at an Oakland electric vehicle charging station, leaving drivers powerless.

Nearly a dozen charging cables are missing from the EVgo charging station at 409 Washington Street near Jack London Square. The chargers have been out of commission for at least a week.

I still chuckle at a couple of meth heads who tried to steal copper from a power box at a defunct factory. One was still live. They chose....poorly.

Copper is $3,89 per pound.
DC fast charge stations cost up to $75.000 per one.
Cables are up to 500 A which requires about 4 wires of almost half an inch diameter. Plus heavy insulation for 480V.

All those charging stations should be eliminated unless they are 100% Green Renewable Energy in the first place, but if they insist on using DIRTY FOSSIL FUELS to charge the electric cars, they should be Taxed at a rate of $100 per KWH since they aren’t paying fuel taxes.
