ALAN DERSHOWITZ's stunning verdict on Donald Trump's indictment: The ex-president's brag to a writer was 'worst sentence he's ever uttered' and every time he opens his mouth he increases his chances of going to prison

The sensational federal indictment Donald Trump faces has stunned one of the former president's most famous supporters, Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz.

Trump faces 31 counts over claims he illegally-stored highly classified government documents at his Mar-a-Lago country club. Jaw-dropping details of the charges against Trump were outlined Friday - and he faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted. Trump will appear before a Miami court on Tuesday.

Dershowitz describes himself as a liberal Democrat, although he has previously spoken out against what he sees as the unfair persecution of Trump.

And in an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, he said the new charges Trump faces are exceptionally serious. The author also warned that the former president's usual strategy of going on the attack could land him in even deeper trouble.

“Whether or not Trump at that time believed the document was classified doesn’t negate the provisions of the Presidential Records Act, which states any record a setting president takes with him when he leaves office is presumed to be declassified. A general clause does not control a specific clause.”

Good point and needs repeating.

Can any of the alleged “witnesses”, reporters or otherwise, tell us what the content of the alleged “secret” document was? If Trump just held up a folder containing a “secret” document, but the document itself was not visible, he hasn’t disclosed anything. Merely saying the document is about this or that is not disclosing “this or that”.

Four potential witnesses . . .

From the indictment:

a. In July 2021, at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster,New Jersey ("The Bedminster Club"), during audio-recorded meeting with a writer, a publisher, and two members of his staff, none of whom possessed a security clearance, TRUMP showed and described a "plan of attack" that TRUMP said was prepared for him by the Department of Defense and a senior military official. TRUMP told the individuals that the plan was "highly confidential" and "secret." TRUMP also said, "as president I could have declassified it," and, "Now I can't, you know, but this is still a secret."

In the Storage Room at The Mar-a-Lago Club, there were several boxes, and from some boxes, several documents spilled on the floor. That situation was discovered by an employee ("Trump Employee 2"), and in a photograph of that spillage, classified documents were found to be strewn across the floor.

what trump says versus what other say he said... is no conflict... direct testimony versus hearsay?

really?

“we heard this man say he was God... “ crucify him for what they heard him say at some point in time...

presidents are allowed to leak information to the press as needed to win or prevent a conflict. Democrats across the board leak information to the press illegally...

almost every day.

How so? He was too weak to stop the steal, has no political power now and can’t stop selling the Deep State rope to hang MAGA with.

If he truly and specifically said he did NOT declassify, I would guess that you no longer need to “presume” anything.

———lost in all of this is if Trump is correct that he declassified everything beforehand, then his comment of declassify afterwards is irrelevant, and his use of this is a secret can simply be its was declassified, but I consider it a secret so don’t go talking about or publishing it.

Also knowing how the media , et al, looked for anything why didn’t this come out beforehand.

Additionally I find it hard to believe that Washingtonians kept anything “ classified” or “secret’ from everyone....

Trump is still in the fight.

You are sitting here complaining like other Do Nothings.

Take your fake crap somewhere else.

conflicting statements or dissimilar representations allegedly made by a third parties are NON ADMISSABLE testimony as they are on the face “hearsay” statements.

and when outright hard evidenced already collected and cataloged by the DO Justice is broadly ignored on other more egregious and clearly illegal terms are overlooked whilst pursuing political opponents and competitors... in the form of politicized prosecution...

This level of corruption may trigger things not yet contemplated.

I agree Trump never handled the boxes. He may have "touched" some documents. He bragged to a journalist that he was "touching" a document as he was being recorded (on audio).

The blow back from this is enormous. If Trump is president again. 1/2 of DC will be purged. And it needs to be done.

There is no other way to restore the Constitution and right the ship of state.

Yeah, we are prety screwed at this point. Our candidate field is currently all haters and then there's Trump.

It’s the usual suspects who proclaim “Don’t vote”, or “write in so and so as a protest to teach the GOP a lesson!”

The fact of the matter is that they like losing and then blame others for the results of their own actions. A lot of times also the same ones spreading wild conspiracies to discredit the right/conservatives. Their agenda is clear.

The last place Dems want is Trump in jail and a martyr. They’d much rather have him on the ballot and GOTV for them.

Dershowitz is not a political supporter of Trump, but he has been one of the most fervent supporters on his legal issues. He even defended him at his impeachment trial. So I don’t see how that line is a lie.

My take is historic present tense.

People speak in the historic present all the time
Historic Present | Verbs & Tenses | Grammar | Glossary | Ultius
https://www.ultius.com/glossary/grammar/verbs-tenses/historic-present.html
The main purpose of the historic present is to convey a sense of immediacy, or to talk about events as if they were just happening right now.
