One bucket of coal at 7:00AM, and one bucket of coal at 7PM. Coal burns so hot we had to keep the windows open an inch or two.
Good Timing!
This narrative aided by the “wild” Canadian forest fires that simultaneously all started.
I live in OK......Never burnt a drop of NAT GAS last year.
Just plain stupid. Where do they think the majority
of electricity comes from....fossil fuels.
“The water saver washers cause people to do more smaller loads of wash.”
Ours has a heavy load setting that fills the tub.
Government should never be allowed to ban commerce. That is not the purpose of government.
Ok, Biden, back to wood-burning stoves it is then. Try regulate that we can’t buy those. I can find ‘em in antique stores :P
The government will subsidize those unfortunate people who now can't pay to heat their homes. The subsidies will be taken from others, by force if necessary. This will create more dependence on the government while simultaneously redistributing wealth, so from the government's point of view it's perfect.
The 95% efficiency furnaces need new exhaust ducting, they can’t use the existing stack.
And they need to be replaced every ten years.
HAS ANYONE figured out that all the regulations BIDEN & Dems are calling for will come into play when THEY ARE MOST LIKELY DEAD???????
“This is literally the level of control over our lives that caused Thomas Jefferson and his friends to start shooting British Soldiers in the FACE.”
Never thought I would live to see the day when I longed for “the good ole days” of our forefathers. I stand corrected.
Personally I'm changing to mini splits - heat pump and cooling systems, room zoned on motion demand. It's just me and my wife now, so why cool the whole house to 70 degrees? Each zone has a minimum and maximum background sleep-mode when no motion is detected for a set time. This is best for cooling mode. Heat mode can be set to a min- max in each zone, with also a no motion sleep-mode if you choose to.
We live in the deep south, so our biggest demand on HVAC is the 7 month long cooling season. The biggest risk is the very cold months and persistent power outages in our area. Days at a time in the winter. We have a ventless gas logs set in the fireplace for those utility outages, which are frequent in Memphis.

Hmmm... this discussion gives me an idea. About 15 years ago, I purchased one of the Carrier high efficiency condensing furnaces. As it turned out, that was a bad bad choice... as I came to realize, Carrier was one of the residential furance manufacturers that didn’t use stainless steel on their secondary heat exchangers (the condensing part of the furnace) and it rotted out. I think that there even was a class action lawsuit about this. In my case, the rest of the furnace was fine and it is still sitting in my shop (waiting for an experiment or two).
But I digress.... I wonder if I can just rip out the secondary heat exchanger and connect the primary to the flue and then just use it as a non-condensing furnace. If it worked, I’d have a spare furnace.... or one that can be converted to propane and taken to the cottage etc.
For those further north there are some combination units that have a heat pump and A/C unit that runs at high pressure that is augmented by a gas fired heating unit once the temp gets lower. The only problem with them is the blower did not have a speed setback for the full heating cycle so they blew too much air and dried out the house.
As with all heat pumps, they run at high pressure so they don’t last a long time — 10 - 15 years on my experience.
Maybe, but there is still a core set of democrat voters who have a major responsibility to this mess.
So, between the home-heating fires and the EV fires, Drill Baby Drill turns into Burn Baby Burn.
Our winters usually involve a few days to a few weeks of sub or near sub 0 lows, with highs in the single digit or lower teens.

Right... but then there was Feb., 2021 (particularly the 15th).... lots of backup heat supplies and extra blankets needed that day.
My parents unit lasted exactly 10 years before catastrophic failure. Pretty expensive to replace.
