Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that his forces stand ready to launch their long-promised counteroffensive to reclaim Russian-occupied territory.

"We strongly believe that we will succeed," Zelenskyy told The Wall Street Journal. "I don’t know how long it will take."

"To be honest, it can go a variety of ways, completely different," he said. "But we are going to do it, and we are ready."

I didn't mean to pick anything apart .... simply following through with a comment on the topic.

We seem to have a difference of opinion on the quality of leadership that Zelenskyy is providing to Ukraine.

I think there is room to make reasonable arguments on both sides of the issue.
And it is an issue ....
When the taxpayer is asked to pony up ... it’ makes a difference to me what sort of “quality” we are getting for our $$. And at this point I think we are being short changed.

The U.S. recently had to buy 100,000 artillery shells from South Korea to send to Ukraine. And we are supposedly sending older, stock-piled military machinery, equipment, etc., to Ukraine for them to use. But in doing that, we are depleting our own stockpiled resources, old or not, that could be needed quickly to defend our own shores, at least until production levels for new stuff could be put in place, and ramped up.

The emblem may indeed be that of the Ukrainian armed forces. but it is very similar to that of the OUN of the 1930s:

During 1854, when the United Kingdom was engaged in the Crimean War, Tennyson wrote several patriotic poems under various pseudonyms. Scholars speculate that Tennyson created his pen names because these verses used a traditional structure Tennyson employed in his earlier career but suppressed during the 1840s, worrying that poems like "The Charge of the Light Brigade" (which he initially signed only A.T.) "might prove not to be decorous for a poet laureate".

The poem was written after the Light Cavalry Brigade suffered great casualties in the Battle of Balaclava. Tennyson wrote the poem based on two articles published in The Times: the first, published on 13 November 1854, contained the sentence "The British soldier will do his duty, even to certain death, and is not paralyzed by the feeling that he is the victim of some hideous blunder," the last three words of which provided the inspiration for his phrase "Some one had blunder'd."

The Ukrainian counteroffensive will be a major blunder, escalating the intensity of the war and inviting even greater death and destruction to no good end. The Ukrainians hope to achieve a better position from which to negotiate. Instead, they will demonstrate the hopelessness of their position. The only ones profiting from this war are the Ukrainian oligarchs and the US military-industrial complex.
