American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten claimed Friday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that people are “getting really angry” at the education policies of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).
Anchor Nicolle Wallace said, “I want to come back to the other policy which is I think the most unpopular of all in sort of this new mom’s group and the polling that’s out is the book bans.”
Weingarten said, “Two things are unpopular, the book bans and also why you would get rid of social emotional learning when we have a mental health crisis? We have to make sure that kids feel okay.”

You beat me to it. If you want to convince conservatives, Randi Weingarten sure isn’t the person to quote.
DeSantis is making the groomers so ANGRY.
Actually most parents are pretty supportive of it
If randy says one thing believe the other
I know you are a New York Lesbian communist Randi and you have to say stuff like this but the people you are trying to manipulate are already manipulated and the others will never be manipulated by you or any other communist shill so go away and stay away.
Police would be dragging you out of that very town hall for showing indecent material in public.
You funny guy!
I don’t flippin’ think so.
Only the mental mommas and papas, celebrities and perverts.
Do we really have a mental health crisis among early grade school children? Let’s not even accept her premise without debate.
Is it liberal parent? Or liberal teachers? I recently had a discussion with a friend who is a retired librarian. She gave me a list of banned books. I found many reasons why children should not be exposed to these authors. Public libraries are there fir free speech, the classroom should be there to teach the kids the basics and let the parent teach them values and differences between good and evil.
One last thing, is the Bible allowed in school libraries?
Yes, book bans are unpopular with leftists, unless they are doing the banning. We’re talking about banning books in elementary schools. Just yesterday there was a post about parents wanting to ban a book from a school in Utah. That book was a King James Version of the Holy Bible. I doubt the parents in that case were Christian conservatives.
Contrast banning the Bible and books that promote homosexuality and gender denial. It is clear to a majority of Americans which should be and not be available for children to read. If books become so contentious, then perhaps schools shouldn’t have taxpayer funded libraries. That’s fine with me.
I homeschooled my children and bought books. I still have the books to hand down to my grandchildren. In fact, I have books that my parents bought me when I was a child that my children have read. Last Christmas, I gave a book to my grandson that I had as a child. He was three years old going onto four. The book I gave him was the first book I ever read on my own. I was four years old when I did that.
My daughter has seen fit to teach my grandson to read before he is school aged. I’m am hoping the first book he reads on his own will be the book that I first read on my own. It’s about fishing and a think it may have influenced me to enjoy fishing for all of my life. Of course, it is a book that promotes violence, killing and toxic masculinity. /s It would certainly cause a major mental breakdown for anyone woke.
As for social emotional learning, I have no idea what that is. It must be some leftist psychobabble. I am willing to wager it doesn’t work considering two-thirds of children cannot read at grade-level. American teachers are abject failures. That means what they are doing does not work. If social emotional learning is part of that, then that is part of the failure.
I do know one thing for certain. It is not difficult to teach a child to read. I set my children on autopilot by age 8. They were reading at four or five grade levels above their own by then. When that happens it is simply a matter of adding grammar and vocabulary lessons. After while it became their responsibility to find vocabulary words to learn. The dictionary is a very functional book.
Vocabulary lesson plan: randomly find 20 words in the dictionary that you do not know. Learn how to spell them. Learn what they mean. Use the words at the dinner table. Maybe that’s social (dinner table) emotional learning. Later in the week they would have a spelling quiz.
Also, because the teacher can’t be trusted.
So am I.
Parents? What parents? Maybe your dyke union perhaps…
I don’t support Desantis in the primaries, but this comes across as just a hit piece, and not based on reality.
I don’t think most parents are upset about the removal of trans and gay propaganda and grooming books from schools
Being unpopular with commrade Randi and Sarah Palin backstabber Nicolle falls under the plus column for DeSantis. Biggly.
Citing one of the biggest jackals on earth doesn’t help your argument.
Yup. That’s her. The Real American, screeching lesbo mouth wide open.
And that freak dictates what all the teachers in the country think and do.
