DeSantis Smacks Back At Trump on Glenn Beck Show: ‘He Turned Over The Country to Fauci’
Mediaite ^ | May 25, 2023 | Candice Ortiz

In a phone interview with radio host Glenn Beck for the Thursday edition of The Glenn Beck Program, DeSantis finally punched back against those claims. A clip from their exchange began circulating Twitter via Citizen Free Press.

“I think he did great for three years, but when he turned the country over to Fauci in March of 2020, that destroyed millions of people’s lives,” DeSantis said. “In Florida, we were one of the few that stood up, cut against the grain, took incoming fire from media, bureaucracy, the left, even a lot of Republicans, had schools open, preserved businesses.”

It would be interesting to go back to March and April of 2020, here on Free Republic, and see who was saying what and urging what actions should have been taken against the virus.

Actually I think almost everyone in America is sick of talking about Covid and if this is Meatball's best campaign strategy, he's screwed.

I think I'll stay in the State of my BIRTH. I notice you didn't answer my question about where you were born. I suspect it wasn't in Florida. If you weren't born here, it's pretty rich of YOU to tell ME to leave. The point still remains, DeSantis signed an executive order to CLOSE the beaches. It doesn't matter if it was two Counties or all Counties. He did it and he urged County leaders to do it, too. Not admitting to it is rewriting history.

DeSantis was actually the LEADER in blocking mask mandates in America. He denied requests for mask mandates in the summer of 2020, including from doctors, repeatedly:

https://www.baynews9.com/fl/tampa/news/2020/06/17/doctors-call-on-desantis-to-mandate-masks-in-enclosed-public-spaces

When school districts threatened to install mask mandates, DeSantis promised to cut their funding:

https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2021/08/06/1025192746/some-florida-school-districts-will-require-masks-the-governor-may-cut-their-fund

He ultimately issued multiple executive orders and championed new legistlation blocking masks, vaccines and the like, fighting liberal judges along the way:

What did Trump do in this regard? Nothing. Except order lockdown guidelines, then run for the hills.

who did desantis hire for state surgeon general? oh ya, Joseph Ladapo.. do you think he would have kept the fauxch around? we will never know, but I doubt he would have agreed much with fauxchi.

all the right places are attacking him for misinformation about covid 19. it means he was right.

LOL, Meatball, LOL.

Perhaps I haven’t kept up with who said what about whom when, but, I thought DeSantis was responding to crap Trump had said about DeSantis’ handling of covid in Florida?

You’ve become the chief name calling insult hurler on FR. I’m sure you’re proud to earn this distinction, since in every post you seem determined to earn this title. However, to those of us capable of actual debate, your act has become quite comical. LOL. Again.

so the question must be asked of all republican candidates, how are they going to handle all those attacks? because it does not matter who wins the democrats will continue the same crap. I’d just ignore the complaining, and keep the firings going, scorched earth, stay so far ahead of them their heads are spinning. why not a ton of day 1 EOs.. Biden did it. So can a republican.

We should also be asking house and senate candidates if they will fight the democrats as hard as they have been fighting republicans for years.

the GOP/Republican party is seen as weak, because they are. One strong man at the top won’t fix it (trump’s 1st term proves that) we need to replace a ton of republicans.

So we just throw our hands up and say, oh well, there was nothing we could do, we had to shut down the country, and destroy millions of jobs, lives, etc. Ridiculous. We had the Presidency! We should have done better. There is no way on God’s green Earth we should have shut down the country the way we did, and for us to sit here now ...

I agree with you 100%. That's Monday-morning quarterbacking. There is hardly anything Trump did in the early weeks of COVID that I wouldn't have done myself. Remarkably, from the time COVID first hit the news it turned out that he had the best instincts on it all along. He said it would be comparable to a bad flu season, shut down air travel from China, and warned Americans to take care of themselves.

For that he was called a "xenophobe," and by early March even many pathetic losers here on this website who call themselves "patriotic conservatives" turned into simpering sheep and began begging him to "do something!"

" It wasn’t easy for him that’s for sure."

It wasn't easy for George W. Bush on 9/11. The press and Democrats attacked him that sane day for not cutting short his visit with the kids at the school after he'd received news of the attack. And it was a Democrat Congressmen from Massachusetts (can't remember his name offhand now), that was demanding to know why Bush hadn't immediately returned to Washington, when everyone knew he was being told not to, by the people who were responsible for protecting him.

Democrats second-guess every Republican. There is nothing that a Republican President can do that won't be vilified by Democrats and the press, and sometime from people in their own party. No other Republican President in the history of this country has been attacked so viciously, constantly, for the past 7+ years as Trump has. It wasn't just attacks on his performance as President, it was the legal attacks on his personal life, over things that transpired long before he even ran for office. I don't remember that happening to any other President that I can recall.

They tried to destroy him before the 2016 election. They tried to destroy him as President. The only way they could get him out of office was to use fraud to remove him. Since he's been out of office, they are using every play in the book to keep him from going back. I believe they would even kill him if they fail in these attempts.

Frankly, I don't understand why anyone wouldn't vote for a man who our enemies have tried so desperately to eliminate. Before Trump announced his run in 2015, they were already plotting against him, and attacking him in the press. Anyone who ran against Hillary was going to get it big time. Personally, I don't think we'll see the level of attacks from the Democrats or the media against those individuals who have thrown their hat in the ring against Trump. They will simply continue to attack Trump, because their motto is: Anyone but Trump.

that’s a lie. If Ron lost he still could have run and would have been freer to do so than to run while supposedly being governor. seems he is all about himself and what he wants to do when he wants to do it. very selfish indeed!

I know there was a video I saw back a while ago where he said he intended to fulfill his term or to that effect - that he had no thought of running because he was going to fulfill his word to people of his state.

he’s just been doing what’s popular for years to get ahead, no real concern for the people, just himself.

“He denied requests for mask mandates in the summer of 2020, including from doctors”

All I know is what my three friends told me. They spent winters of 2020-21 and 2021-22, in three different counties. Older ladies who saw doctors often. Masks were mandatory.

I wasn’t there so saw nothing first-hand.

I’ve posted the exact timeline, and the exact quotes, including from the White House’s own website.

Trump instituted a nationwide lockdown, under the guise of “two weeks to flatten the curve.”

DeSantis didn’t even flinch.

After those two weeks were over, Trump issued new, indefinite lockdown guidelines.

DeSantis still didn’t comply.

THEN, Trump called DeSantis and asked him to comply. DeSantis agreed, but he only partially agreed to Trump’s draconian guidelines. DeSantis then abandoned the lockdowns far ahead of most anyone else.

Learn the facts.

Maybe Trump knew that DeSantis was running way back when the polls came out and everybody said DeSantis was focused on being Governor.

Trump was right to attack his primary opponent.
He guessed right..

No, losing is usually the end of you as a serious presidential candidate. Would Obama have ever been nominated had he lost his Senate race in 2004? Bush the governorship? John McCain his Senate seat? I sincerely doubt it.

I know it’s hard to believe when you’re supporting a guy who lost in 2020 to a senile geezer, but losing is not a résumé enhancer for most voters.
