We need to enact some serious, maybe even federal law regarding theft. Anything over $100 the up to a year in jail, anything over $100 should be treated as a felony with a year or more minimum sentence. If that were in place, and in Forrest, I bet soft would drop quickly. All it will take is a few good examples.

More and more stores will go to on-line sales, the local stores will just close down.

What happens when you don't enforce the law for whatever "progressive" reason.

But there can be no "just going back" to how it was before.
Any such attempt will be successfully resisted by the unleashed ones.
Any solution must go way beyond just trying to go back.

Needs to be more mention of lawsuits in this thread. Enforcing security measures against obvious shoplifters sounds great until you realize it takes only one incident where an employee acts poorly or a jury can be convinced that the store’s actions were improper.

Keeping insurance rates down by having a lenient security policy is probably better for their bottom line.

the theft phenomena is income redistribution or reparations in another word.

The theft being permitted is actually Kissing Black Ass to insure the votes is not lost. A mere 5% loss of black vote is an existential change.

Theft is in fact a ploy presented to create an illusion of equality

That’s a great quote, but it also disqualifies most of the human race throughout time. Was it Franklin that said to the lady—asking about what type of government they’d been given— “A Republic, Madame, if you can keep it.”? It’s the testimony of all history that man cannot, in fact, “keep it”.

I believe it is God who keeps us, strictly via His grace in the present age. There is some kind of interaction between principalities and powers in heavenly places and what we do on earth, but I don’t really understand it or know the parameters of responsibility. We are not the center, we are not driving history, I know that for sure.

Well stated every slacker has a so called reparations issue but it’s just a code word for no laws.

The managers of state and local government are in the arena of the pay to play.

They want to rewrite the Constitution it’s why they call it a living thing.

Socialism Marxism Communism owners are wordsmiths.

At the edge of the parking lot by an Asian grocery that I visit are always a group of homeless looking people selling laundry detergent. They have several large bottles of several different types. OBVIOUSLY all stolen.

If police are not responding to retail crimes like shoplifting, why not use that lack of response to your advantage?

That is, a large retail store could create a “shoplifter holding cell” in the back. Soundproofed, with just a steel chair bolted to the floor. And a bucket welded to the floor over a drain. The idea is to “hold them for the police”, and since the police don’t show up, kick them out of the store just before shut down after cleaning and restocking, say 2-3am.

No food or water, out on the street in the early hours, and they might even have their car towed if they have a car, or they get to walk home after bus service has ended.

Since the cops didn’t punish them, it is a way to teach them that shoplifting is bad.

The store legal department can tweak the idea to insure it is legal.
