WASHINGTON, May 17 (Reuters) - Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis will officially enter the 2024 U.S. presidential race next week, according to two sources familiar with the decision, immediately becoming Donald Trump's biggest rival for the Republican nomination and shaking up a contest that largely has been one-sided.
DeSantis will likely file paperwork declaring his candidacy on May 25 to coincide with a donor meeting in Miami, with a more formal launch the week of May 29, according to a source.
The invitation for the May 25 event stated that donors would be put to “work,” an apparent allusion to raising money for DeSantis, according to a source familiar with the event.

I think it behooves all of us to support the only man in history to leave the White House less wealthy than he was when he moved in. Say what you want about Trump, but that man is simply not for sale.
However he's got his war on Disney and the whole election year conversion to social conservatism, his own lack of authenticity and charisma-free charm tied like a boat anchor around his neck.
It is better for the country to fall quickly and with the Dems in charge the downfall will come. Then we can divide up the pig republic and start over.

The problem without being snarky at all is that DeSantis will be target #1 for Trump and nobody does the nasty like Trump in a primary.
Furthermore, the cast of characters promoting DeSantis (and funding him) include most of the Never Trump crowd with a healthy sprinkling of National Review loving neocons.

The truth about Trump is that he a highly motivated MAGA base and many of them are not really affiliated with the GOPe. Sure, he has a lot of negatives but its kind of baked into the cake by now - he can still bring the numbers out and we saw that in 2020. Nobody else in the Republican field can do that and if DeSantis alienates the MAGA base he will be a dead man walking politically in a national race because MAGA holds a grudge (maybe even more than Trump).
This was the wrong time. I detest those who are supporting him but they did us a favor. DeSantis is not smart enough to figure out that they really don’t care anything about him - he was just the next flavor of the month to get rid of Trump.
