WASHINGTON, May 17 (Reuters) - Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis will officially enter the 2024 U.S. presidential race next week, according to two sources familiar with the decision, immediately becoming Donald Trump's biggest rival for the Republican nomination and shaking up a contest that largely has been one-sided.

DeSantis will likely file paperwork declaring his candidacy on May 25 to coincide with a donor meeting in Miami, with a more formal launch the week of May 29, according to a source.

The invitation for the May 25 event stated that donors would be put to “work,” an apparent allusion to raising money for DeSantis, according to a source familiar with the event.

DeSantis never said a word about deep state, lying media, rigged elections, criminal corruption by those in government, et al...So why would they go after DeSantis like they have Trump for 7+ years?

Has Ron ever denied the Deep State? No. He has a record about which to speak, which he will predominantly.

What a typical evasive bull s**t Commie response.

The revised bill has been passed by the legislature but DeSantis apparently has not yet signed it. If he doesn’t sign or veto it within a certain period of time, the bill becomes law automatically.

How convenient. He has an excuse if someone criticizes him for arranging for a law to be changed so as to benefit him personally.

MAGA is picking Trump.

Since 2015.

Your mileage obviously varies..

I wouldn’t stay home.

I’ll be writing Trump in if your R team wants to move on from Trump’s 4 years of the breath of fresh air from your R and D team’s Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama era..

That era is already back in business.
The swamp is co owned..
Not by Trump btw..

No one's ignoring it

Clearly, you are.

"Winnability" in the general cannot happen without "winnability" in the primary. And DeSantis does not have a pathway.

And Trump doesn’t? It’s already bitten him, more than once.

I am not a sheep who needs my shepherd. I prefer Ron to Donald. Both are humans full of frailties, as are we all. Both love America and will fight for principle.

My Shepherd isn’t a politician.

But America beginning with 13 Colonies like Christ and His 12, and growing to 50 states like the New Covenant Church grew at 50, has a prophetic existence.

A reflection of the New Covenant Church.

Lawlessness, disorder and Just us..

Maybe Trump was robbed to get the mandate to finally do unto them as they had done unto him..

That’d be justice. That’d be law and order..

Let me modify shepherd with “human” and “political”. My Shepherd rose from the dead after crucifixion.

‘ And unless you goofy only Trumpers want Nikki, Pence, or some other RINO as your fallback; then be glad DeSantis is a great viable Plan B.’

—————————————

DeSantis will never win the general with the legislation he has signed, namely 6 wk abortion. Polling reflects the majority of independents do not agree with that. Roe vs Wade swung independents to dems 2022. Add the list of very conservative legislation and he will be painted as authoritarian. Every RINO you mentioned has a better chance ar winning the general than DeSantis.

Be careful who you criticize and why (goofy only Trumpers)……unless you like crow.

I wouldn’t say [Trump] infiltrated the [Republican] party per se- more like amplified and engaged the core philosophies and constitutional values.

The height of good wisdom there. A fine Observation.

You're basing this on polls - polls which are, in turn, based on the current non-candidacy of DeSantis. He's been a punching bag for Trump and has never yet punched back - let's see if those polls change once DeSantis does punch back. The first primaries are still months away, and polls can and do change.

I will base my primary vote on which candidate seems more clueful about ballot harvesting. I'm not interested in spending another day-after hearing people crying about the unfairness of another Biden win.

It is better for the country to fall quickly and with the Dems in charge the downfall will come. Then we can divide up the pig republic and start over.

Well, at least you're honest about the fact that you'd rather have 4 more years of Biden than DeSantis. I'll give you credit for that much. However, the majority of Freepers are tired of Bidenflation eating their savings.

Dumb. Think of how he could have positioned himself for 2028..... that ship sailed.

DeSantis 2028 was never going to be a possibility even if DeSantis kissed Trump rump until 2029. In 2028 DeSantis will be a has-been former governor. Do you know how short the attention span of the average American voter is? In 2028 nobody will remember all the good things DeSantis did, not to mention how 4 more years of Trump would fire up the Rat base no end. It's 2024 or never for Ron and he knows it.

Wrong timing, Governor. Not your turn yet

So when is his turn? If Trump wins in 2024 the Rat base will be so fired up by 2028 that whoever the Republican candidate is will get slaughtered. Much past 2028 and folks will have forgotten who DeSantis is.

You'd have to dial back to the founders to see this kind of relationship between a leader and the people.

I was unaware that the founders promoted a dangerous vaccine to the American people.

I doubt that.

Been pretty disappointed in DJT lately (esp considering him to be best president we have had in a long time) and his antics but after his comments about Cuomo handling covid better than DeSantis he lost me

I was at a large work gathering this week, majority very conservative and none want DJT to run again.

Keep attacking but but the primaries will be what matters most and I suspect they will be surprising to many of you.
