In an interview published on Monday, former President Trump said that a six-week limit on abortion is excessively strict. If you’re thinking this is a curious position for a Republican presidential candidate to take, I suppose I should offer some context. Trump was specifically referring to Florida’s heartbeat bill, which was recently signed into law by… Gov. Ron DeSantis.
When questioned about Florida’s new abortion regulations in an interview with The Messenger, Trump responded by saying that DeSantis had to make decisions based on his own judgment. Trump also suggested that there were doubts about whether DeSantis fully understood the implications of signing the six-week restriction, as some individuals within the pro-life movement believed it was too severe.
“He has to do what he has to do,” Trump said. “If you look at what DeSantis did, a lot of people don’t even know if he knew what he was doing. But he signed six weeks, and many people within the pro-life movement feel that that was too harsh.”
Who was he referring to? Who knows?
DeSantis signed the six-week abortion ban last month, after having previously signed a 15-week ban a year prior. The new law includes exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. Trump, however, was unwilling to explain exactly what restrictions he’d support, instead saying he was considering all available options, and touted his role in getting Roe v. Wade overturned.
“For 50 years, they’ve been trying to get rid of Roe v Wade. I was able to do it. Nobody else could have done that but me. And I was able to do it [by nominating] three excellent judges on the [sic] Justices of the Supreme Court. And I was able to do that,” Trump explained. “I’m looking at all alternatives.

I think Trump is under the impression that his conservative positions cost him votes in 2020. It did not. Those votes are not obtainable via being pro-child murder, pro-child mutilation, pro-groomer and anti-self defense.
If Trump had a single brain cell, he would get his gay and trans friends to come out against trans women in women's sports and to come out against grooming.
But he will not do that because it will cost him donations. That is why Trump has sided with Disney and Anheuser-Busch...because he wants the donations.
When a politician puts a higher priority on donations than principles, they are a loser with no core values.
At least DeSantis is fighting the culture war and sacrificed future Disney donations. That is principle.
I am for the guy who took no abortion restrictions to 15 weeks and then took it to 6 weeks when he could. That is called making progress and moving the ball forward, which is far smarter than "all or nothing" morons.
Would someone then explain the expected outcomes of the bigger picture?
Democrats specialize in banning things.
Too harsh on the 1.5 month old baby maybe???
We didn’t get to “abortion for any reason, any time” overnight and we are’t going to get to “no abortion for any reason, any time” overnight either.
I’m 100% pro-life but I’m more concerned about the illegal alien invasion of our beloved country. That actually impacts my life. I’m more concerned about the drag queens infiltrating my grandkids’ schools. That also impacts my life. Gun grabbing is high on my list too. As is the 1st amendment.
If stupid women wish to murder their babies, they stand before God for doing it, I won’t answer for them. They’re going to do what they’re going to do regardless of any laws, I won’t answer to God for what they did. It is a spiritual issue.
But that requires a little forward thinking.
When there is a heartbeat, thats too late for an abortion. I think the morning after pill should be more available.
Just my opinion.
This is the most counterproductive statement that he has made.
I think the illegal alien invasion might be judgement on the USA.....similar to Old Testament Israel style judgment.
And why may that be ....if it is? The murder of 84 million babies perhaps.
God judges nations.
Anything DeSantis does Trump will oppose.
He is petty like that. I support him, but he has some bad personality traits.
Yes I agree I heard Don Jr recently say during a interview that NOBODY in the inner circle of Trump has ever told Trump he is wrong.
Trump seems to have DDS (Desantis Derangement Syndrome) - not as severe as Biden's TDS, but it could get there.
So... political expediency over morality? I’m sure God agrees.
Trump should direct all of his statements against leftists.
Both he and DeSantis are Floridians debating abortion in FL., how is that not how federalism works?
That's like parroting "common-sense gun control" as only senseless people would not agree with you.
A baby has a heart beat at about four weeks, so how is it "ridiculous" to not agree with ending the life of a baby with a heart beat?
So then isn’t it a contradiction that he would criticize a Governor (State) for making policy on the issue?
Here is what Trump said about Evangelicals who are unsure of supporting his re-election:
In an interview with the Real America’s Voice program earlier in the year “The Water Cooler,” Trump was asked about his thoughts on why evangelical leaders expressed hesitance to support him in his bid to seek re-election.
“I don’t really care,” the former president replied during his interview with David Brody of the Trump-aligned right-wing news and opinion channel. “It’s a sign of disloyalty.”
Anyone supporting 6 wk abortion will lose the general…….
Weird how RDS supporters now don’t care about winning. Last week they said Trump can’t win suburban women but are fine that RDS can’t win with strict abortion limits.
RDS supporters also are fine with 6 wk abortion as opposed to 0 wks. Hypocrites and squishy morals depending on who they are praising or bashing.
Roe vs Wade is why we lost 2022, republican politicians ignored the subject. BUT TRUMP IS THE DEMOCRAT THEY SAY, yeah right. Rep voters can’t focus or hold every politician to the same standard while barking constantly about Trump. No wonder the Rep party was dead before Trump…..and it will die again once he’s gone.
What do you want….to win or to be righteous? You can’t have both. And if the RDS supporters had any decency they would be grateful for what Trump did as a whole. He saved the party and exposed all of your favorite so-called republican politicians, media, institutions. Thus far, the voters have done nothing about those problems. The only thing they do is hop on the keyboard and pull their hair out over Trump not being perfect. Enjoy the repeated failures….
Once Trump is gone, you are going to be shocked how quickly we return to the uniparty. A wasted opportunity driven by shortsighted rep voters who expected one person to fix everything. Then blamed him for failing. You also believe another leader like Trump will ever be allowed near DC. Russiagate operators included EVERY TOP OFFICIAL IN ALPHABET AGENCIES AS WELL AS THE WHITEHOUSE……and no one will be held accountable, it wasn’t a crime. This and other tactics will be used against any enemy here forth.
MAGA is bigger than one person but will never be allowed in DC again.
