Trump’s pledge for Ukraine peace met with doubt, derision

As former President Trump solidifies his front-runner status in the Republican 2024 presidential primary race, his views on the Russia-Ukraine war paint an increasingly stark contrast with GOP leaders in Congress.

On Wednesday, he pledged to end the Ukraine war within 24 hours of taking office and refused to say which side he wants to win the war.

“When I’m president, I will have that war settled in one day, 24 hours,” Trump said in a CNN town hall Wednesday night, adding he would meet with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“They both have weaknesses and they both have strengths, and within 24 hours that war will be settled, it’ll be over.”

...snip...A survey from the Pew Research Center published this week found the number of Republicans who say the U.S. should focus on problems at home rather than paying attention to issues overseas increased to 71 percent this year from 65 percent last year.

The number of Americans who share that view overall is at 55 percent, up 4 percentage points from last year.

Chris Christie 2023-24, summarized:

He wants to run again for the Republic nomination, will need big-bucks RINOs backing him to do this, is signaling his “platform” when running will be to bash Trump 24/7, and wants to travel from place to place while campaigning and stay at posh places while stuffing his face with expensive meals.

Trump’s “deal” is to let Russians have eastern Ukraine. Ukraine should accept it and if they don’t, too bad, they won’t get any more military aid from us. He makes it sound like it’s some brilliant top-secret idea he will put into motion only after he is president. But that’s his deal. Ukraine should accept defeat and move on.

Nonsense. Most politicians profit from war, and use to it to enrich themselves and distract the populus. President Trump doesn't need their money and he doesn't need a war to generate distractions.

When McCain failed to overturn Obamacare and replace it with something better, President Trump was effectively able to do that within 24 hours when he repealed the Mandate.

Then why did Deep State feel the need to steal his election?

Note to Deep State: Actions speak louder than words.

It’s manifestly apparent his position has changed.

Cut the military aid off to Ukraine and the war is over with 24 hours. And, most Ukrainians would be happy if that happened.

And, most Ukrainians would be happy if that happened.

Right, that's why Ukrainians are fighting ferociously against the Russian invasion, because they would actually be very happy to surrender to the russians. Okay

If anyone has doubts about Trump’s ability to negotiate difficult deals, have doubts about his ability to bring peace in Ukraine

Reality check, the Russo-Ukrainian War has been going on in Ukraine's southeast since 2014. This was also during the Trump years, in which he was not able to negotiate a deal.

Trump’s record on foreign affairs speaks for itself. Relations improved with the rest of the world pretty much improved across the board. There was no intrusion into Ukraine on his watch. There was no botched withdraw from Afghanistan. Relations with North Korea improved. China’s aggression was kept in check. And ISIS was, for all intents and purposes, neutralized. If Trump can’t broker a deal to end the Russia/Ukraine conflict, then I doubt anyone can.

I guess we should have surrendered to Japan, because you, know, we would be happy.

I'll agree to part of that. Trump influenced the various power interests, and to an effective degree. Good on Trump for that, and I mean it.

Now, let's get back to the nonsensical, preposterous, and beyond foolish notion that Mister Trump can end the Ukraine war in 24 hours.

If I were the Trumpiest, most Trumpiest supporter of Trump, the 24 hour boast would make me cringe, and rightfully so.

True statesmen (think Reagan here) would never make such an outlandishly foolish claim.

I do suspect that one, of the many, reasons that Trump does not want to debate his fellow candidates for the GOP nomination is that he might need to defend this insane claim.

My excellent FRiends who are supporters of Donald Trump.

Candidates that make you cringe every day are not your best choice.

Tell Ukraine to sue for peace, realign the borders to match. They can’t fight without their bosses footing the bill.

We are paying these people to fight and die.
It is like watching a horrific bumfight.
Both sides will always be worse for it.

“Stop the dying” is a powerful argument, and one for there are few rational responses. Nobody’s freedom will be expanded or extended by the continuation of hostilities, and no recovery is possible as long as warfare ravages the land.

Peace kills. Just ask the Holodomor victims. Just ask the Khmer Rouge victims. Liberate the Donbas! Do not reward Russian aggression.

I would rather have “Naive self-confidence, delusions of grandeur, lust for power, and magical thinking” than a war-monger bent on escalating conflict.

“Team America, World Police!!!”

I despise anyone supporting this giant money and human life sink. 6% of the entire DOD budget goes to it. By borrowing more $$$ from our grandkids!!! Next fiscal year, interest on our debt will be larger than DOD. Forever!

We are THIRTY THREE TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT!!! Because of all the deficit spending, we now have intractable long term inflation over 10% each year ( shadowstatistics.com ) Milton Friedman won the Nobel Prize proving that decades ago. Deficit spending is the only thing that leads to longterm (2 years plus) intractable inflation. We’re stuck with this forever unless the Fed crashes the economy on purpose, which will give us Great Depression #2.

Out true enemies (China, communists everywhere) are watch their long range plans of destroying the US reap the rewards. We are very close to a death spiral as a nation.

Kruschev is laughing from thepits of Hell.
