DeSantis: GOP 'Must Reject the Culture of Losing,' No More 'Excuses'
News Max ^ | 5/14/2023 | Eric Mack

While echoing the policies and positions of former President Donald Trump, Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis took some veiled shots the runaway GOP primary polling leader – blasting Republicans as having been losers.

"We must reject the culture of losing that has infected our party in recent years. The time for excuses is over. We've got to demonstrate the courage to lead and the strength to win."

"If we make the 2024 election a referendum on Joe Biden and his failures, and if we provide a positive alternative for the future of this country, Republicans will win across the board," DeSantis said. "If we do not do that, if we get distracted, if we focus the election on the past or on other side issues, then I think the Democrats are going to beat us again, and I think it will be very difficult to recover from that defeat."

Most definitely. Neither Trump or DeSantis have a good chance at winning especially against RFK. WI, AZ and GA are needed. The Lake case may change things, we will see. WI is lost and GA is anti Trump.

DeSantis will be effectively painted as too conservative by misconstruing 6wk abortion, don’t say gay, book banning, etc. And Trump is polarizing because of media. They defined Trump 2016, nothing new to add or surprise voters. Some voters will return to Trump because of economics, over riding there emotional dislike of him.

Just curious, has the rep party ever been united or is this a new phenomenon? I witnessed the Trump/Cruz nonsense but don’t recall the same animus after Romney or McCain won the primary. Granted, social media wasn’t a factor then. I recall not liking Romney because he played coy while the top contenders took each other out and he was the last man standing. I thought that was shady and cowardly. And of course, that is exactly what he was at his core (proven by his debates with Obama).

Republicans generally aren’t as united (at least where it counts) as Dems. Its always faction vs faction, establishment vs rank and file, conservative GOP vs lib GOPe etc etc. Of course this isn’t helped by Trump being far more interested in attacking DeSantis rather than the Dems when he’s the supposed frontrunner. If you don’t believe me go on to his truth social its mostly attacks on DeSantis and ranting about his personal issues with actual statements of principles and bringing the fight to Dems a distant third.

Its funny, Dems have literally had trump arrested and cost him millions of dollars through trumped up charges and thats just within the past few weeks and apparently he’s still not as mad at them as he is at DeSantis for the crime of appearing to be a roadblock to his nomination/coronation.

He’s supposedly going to smash DeSantis with 100% of the primary vote yet he insists on continuing to focus on attacking him relentlessly rather than lifting a finger against the Dems...FYI I don’t doubt Trump has a good chance to win the nomination, Its just extraordinarily stupid to focus all your energy on a supposedly already destroyed rival, rather than...you know...your actual main challenge....I don’t care if DeSantis was outed dealing crack or whatever. If Trump has already won over him like people here claim he should be focusing his attacks on Biden.

Every soldier, sailor, and marine who serves in a war zone is a war vet.

This Vietnam War Vet (never boots down, I'm always careful to make that distinction) who worked on AC that flew missions over VN knows the duties and the responsibilities that go with hot missions.

Lots of critical things, tons of responsibilities. Those who haven't experienced this have no way of knowing.

I always extend my best regards to all of who served and serve, especially in a war effort.

If you can’t take the heat stay out of the kitchen.

Why are you worried about what is said on this board if it’s so medium traffic?

Desantis is stepping out in front of a train and seems completely oblivious to it.

He’s about to learn the lessons Cruz and Rubio learned in 16 and going to damage his future.

Shame.

lol What kitchen? I’m just pointing out Trump is shooting his own foot with nobody else in sight. I wouldn’t care what he did if it actually helped his chances of winning.

“Those who haven’t experienced this have no way of knowing.”

We can all understand the difference, after factoring out all the drama, between facing enemy bullets and not having to face enemy bullets. One is, your life is continuously on the line, the other, it is not. Big difference.

Actually Trump is going to learn that if you fight the last war, you lose.

“Shame.”....No. History.

Trump’s real power was engaged voters. That will end 2024 or 2028 and there is no replacement that has that cheerleading ability. I wish there was though….

Take another look at Kari Lake. She’s got both guts and charisma. And she’s getting excellent training on our KEY issue: voting integrity as she fights the fraudulent election in Arizona.

Perhaps, but Desantis will lose the nomination by an average of 30-40 points in the primaries.. (or more) and will damage his long term prospects for higher office.

Don’t have to like the cold hard reality that Trump is going to be the nominee, but he is.. there is no math that allows anyone other than Trump to win the nomination. The math isn’t there.

I know the NeverTrumpers/globalist/establishment don’t like that, but it’s true.

Desantis is going to not only get crushed in the Primaries, he’s going to damage any long term chances for higher office.

Hell, he isn’t even going to win the Primary in the state he is governor of, yet he’s going to be the nominee?!?

Folks that buy that are the same folks who believe OZ was a “great” candidate, drinking too much of the establishment kool-aid

“vote dump”

Have wanted a detailed explanation of the unbelievable vote dump for two years but it hasn’t come and won’t. Fox could have dug into but they were intimidated into silence.

It’s very early and DeSantis is not even in yet.

We will see. What we know is that Trump will lose in the General. He will get no Independents...none.

You need to update your talking points.

Last polls have Trump over Biden.

Desantis trajectory is going nowhere.

Why folks think the only president since FDR to grow his vote totals by 20% or more when his first election wasn’t a 3 way race, can’t win a general is comical.

You think Trump managed that but losing independents?

He did something no one has done since FDR… not Obama, not Clinton, not even Nixon or Reagan’s landslide Re-elections saw their vote totals increase by a greater percentage.

But yes, he’s not going to get a single independent if he’s the nominee. (Eye roll)

You don’t have to like Trump, but need to tone down the TDS

‘ Take another look at Kari Lake’

————————-

Agreed that Lake is fantastic. My point that Trump engages voters like no one else:

In Ohio there are still Trump flags and signs in yards
Thousands attend rallies
Hundreds wait in line to attend rallies
Trump supporters still picket across the nation

Lake has a following but not to that degree. It’s one thing to like someone a great deal (Gaetz, MTG, Lake and others) but only Trump gets folks off the couch. And engaged voters are a bigger threat than keyboard warriors.

Agree with your analysis. Trump takes We The People engagement and loyalty to a fresh new level — something almost never seen in someone running for political office.

“Getting folks off the couch” is a great catch phrase to describe the Trump effect!

No talking points here. I was early on Trump and all in.

He can’t beat Biden electorally without winning the independent suburbs in Bucks County, outside of Philadelphia, and Michigan and Wisconsin.

Polls via those states matter.

As far as 2020, Trump lost. Get over it. If you believe he was cheated, whaat did he do to fix things in Pa, Wisc, and Michigan. Nothiing. He will lose again.
