Ron DeSantis is on the verge of announcing his presidential bid Expect to see paperwork filed in the next 15 days.

The clock is about to begin ticking down on Ron DeSantis’ presidential announcement.

On Monday, the Florida governor’s political operation is set to move into its new base of operations, which will trigger disclosure requirements with federal officials.

The DeSantis political operation is currently housed in downtown Tallahassee, but staffers are set to make a short move to a new downtown location that will serve as a more official campaign home, according to a source familiar with the campaign’s plans, as well as another person knowledgeable about the move.

That move will require the not-yet-filed campaign to spend more than $5,000 and, under Federal Election Commission guidelines, when someone running for federal office spends more than $5,000, they are required to register, file financial reports and designate a principal campaign committee.

Functionally, the office move will require DeSantis to file paperwork with federal election officials within 15 days, thus acknowledging publicly for the first time that he is running for president.

>>The only reason to run in 2024 would be to divide the Republican vote to ensure an easier path for Biden to snooze his way to victory, which would call into question whether he really is his own man or is playing the traditional role of “controlled opposition”.
******************************************************
No true MAGA candidate would ever dream of competing with and opposing PDJT. I am glad the ole weasel decided to run now because he exposed himself as the globalists’ trojan horse candidate.

Now this Floridian will never ever vote for DeSatan.

Last chance to take out Trump. Reminds one of Saddam launching SCUDS as a last resort. My guess is many of those supporting DeSantis will never vote for Trump in the general election. They have too big at stake in proving Trump is unelectable. Trump will have to do it without them which will mean a total realignment of the GOP if he pulls it off. This most assuredly will be the most consequential election of my lifetime. Prepare to engage.

I don’t think he will, even though people like George Conway are stoking the fire. At some point RD has to draw on his own powers of logic and figure it out.

Hopefully he gets some of your wisdom!
I see Ron, has already been running because Trump knows it's about to happen!

Play checkers against a chess player!
DeSantis backed by what most conservatives despise. The GOPe!

Enough said. ;)

15 days to see if the Bush,Dole,Bush,McCain,Romney wing get their candidate to face MAGA’s Trump..
******************************************
..who is running to the left of Ron DeSantis, using tired left wing talking points and is terrified that he will have to debate a young candidate that has shown what bold, effective leadership looks like.

Trump turned over his presidency to Fauci and Birx, and hired the swamp creatures that drug him into the miasma, now he needs to face some competition and win the nomination on the issues and show he has learned by his mistakes. I’m not sure he has since Linda Graham is a member of his SC campaign leadership team and he has hired Romney and Bush people to run his campaign.

Trump is running a General Election campaign, he’ll force DeSantis into unpopular positions to differentiate himself from the 45th President.

Positions that suburban women and independent voters hate.

DeSantis is going to find out real quick after he announces his run, that he’s not running against Charlie Crist.

Your post is a good one, but I think it would have been more relevant 20+ years ago when things were different. With fast-moving news cycles and short attention spans, it's much harder now to carry momentum from a losing campaign into the next election season. A big reason for this is that the candidate immediately gets tagged as a loser and has to overcome that stigma four years later against fresh competitors.

Look how quickly most of the losing candidates in presidential primaries tend to vanish from the scene. Those candidates rarely do well in future campaigns — and if they do win a nomination in the future, they tend to be awful candidates in the general election. John McCain and Hillary Clinton are two who immediately come to mind.

Probably so. Yet DeSantis will have more conservative accomplishments than Trump ever will.

And since presidential elections are now nothing more than seasons of American Idol, energy and charisma will carry the day, beating out merit and achievement.

I’d really love to see how a guy like DeSantis would govern in a state where most of the legislators — from BOTH parties — were working tirelessly to undermine him.

That’s what Trump was up against even before he was in office.

Thanks, and you're likely true as well. To the best of my recollection, only in recent times was Ronald Reagan able to turn a losing 1976 primary campaign into a winning 1980 campaign.

Since then, it seems that all of our presidents have largely appeared out of nowhere and charged to the top.

I've resigned myself to the fact that Trump is the likely GOP nominee. I hope he can emerge victorious. I will say, recent polling has me slightly more confident that I was a few months ago.

But Trump will not live forever. We need a solid back bench. And with this, I don't see anything wrong with DeSantis tossing his hat into the ring in 2024 and garnering the experience of running a primary campaign. And if he holds Trump's feet to the fire, it will be better for both of them.

The notion that Trump deserves an unchallenged primary, free of criticism, I'm not buying. Trump needs to make his case, --not to the MAGA faithful, but to everyone else.

“If he loses the nomination, so what?”

uh, tilting at windmills and badly losing will turn desantis into permanently damaged goods a la ted cruz and jeb bush, that’s what ... and shows extremely bad judgement to boot ...

if desantis was serious about becoming President, he would support the MAGA movement, receive Trump’s endorsement and act as a third term for Trump ...

if desantis actually does go up against Trump, then it’s evident to pretty much any conservative paying attention that he’s simply being used by the tsunami of anti-trump forces as a means to weaken Trump ...

WHEN desantis loses, he’ll no longer be of any use to the anti-Trump forces, who will throw him onto the ash heap of history, just like Kasich and Jeb Bush ... that’s what ...

Best case scenario, he wins the nomination and the White House

No chance of that.
