Let's get serious and repeal the Second Amendment

This column will be timely whenever you read it. Some horrible mass shooting will be in the headlines; one always is. Followed inevitably by pathetic wails of pain. “Do something!”

But there is nothing we can do today to end or even reduce the carnage inflicted on America by gun violence. Neither the no-longer-shocking massacres in our schools, bars and businesses nor the torrent of 53 “regular” gun murders daily is going away any time soon.

Thoughts and prayers won’t stop it, “reasonable gun regulation” won’t, even if we could get such laws passed, which we can’t. We are trapped in a death spiral of spent ammunition and wasted lives. The problem only gets worse, year after year after decade.

But we are not helpless. There is a way forward, if we stop thinking about magic fixes and realize that tackling the problem of gun violence is not the work of today or tomorrow. It is the work of generations. It is, at minimum, a 50 year job, but that clock won’t start until we get serious.

Getting serious means repealing, or drastically amending, the Second Amendment. The Supreme Court has decided that “a well-regulated militia” includes gang bangers and wild-eyed loners with a grudge. They say the Constitution makes it impossible to pass the gun laws that an overwhelming majority of the American people want. But the Constitution is not a suicide note. The Second Amendment can be amended, even repealed.

Most Americans aren’t for repeal yet, and the gun lovers will be outraged by the mere suggestion that their gun rights aren’t sacrosanct. So be it. As I said, this is a work for generations, and big ideas always take that long to percolate from the fringes to reality.

Another idiot who thinks the 2nd Amendment “grants” rights.

serious

“bad or dangerous enough to make you worried”

https://www.macmillandictionary.com/us/dictionary/american/serious

“...grave in manner or disposition...”

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/serious

“Serum...is the fluid and solute component of blood which does not play a role in clotting”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serum_(blood)

Grave?

The adjective and the noun may be related.

Blood?

You might want to stick with Red Cross donating.

Let’s not get “serious” about trampling on the Bill of Rights.

Sooo, just when feral black criminal gangs have discovered that swarming businesses, or jacking cars - in the burbs - that is when we are supposed to give up packing heat.

No, thank you. There is more savagery now in America, than when we were beset by hostile Indians. We need guns to mow down black-13-year-olds with gats, trying to steal our cars and trucks. And, to defend ourselves from Trannies on steroids.

"The Supreme Court has decided that 'a well-regulated militia' includes gang bangers and wild-eyed loners with a grudge."

Hysterical. And they weren't "wild-eyed loners." Some were psychotic, several of them abusing drugs. Others were psychopaths. Most "mass shooters" have been criminals, some of them in gang activity.

Remove guns from street gangs and then we’ll think about it.

No, we won't.

There is a big benefit that protects our homes in gun friendly states, even if you don’t have a gun, the criminals have to factor that in at all times.

Well, the writer can open and calls out for a movement to end the 2nd Amendment, but clearly the trend has been supporting the 2nd Amendment. 27 States so far! https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/terminology/types-of-concealed-carry-licensurepermitting-policies/unrestricted/

Repealing 2A is their ONLY LEGAL option. At least Goldstein is right in this aspect. Let him and those that agree with him go through the LEGAL process and try to repeal the RKBA. I welcome the fight.

New York City did not have a police department until 1844. Incredible! How did the city survive before that?

This is the only legitimate course of action anti-gun folks have, it’s the only one that is legal. And they can try it, but it won’t succeed in the country were 27 states of some form of constitutional carry. So let them try.

I suggest an early visit to the proctologist for this

Hey Goldstein, the 2A stems from the action taken at Lexington in April 1775 to confiscate the guns and ammo at Concord to disarm the colonials. It exists to protect us from our run away government.

A well regulated militia is a well known 1700’s term. It refers to citizens who have been trained to operate as a cohesive, well trained group of individuals. They were admonished to pull the flint lock lever back to the second position and not go off half cocked and misfire.

Can people really just govern that away?

People can govern the Constitution itself...there is a set out and legal process to do that. The question is...would you abide by that if it happened?

In order for that to happen the Dems would have to control 34 of the 50 state houses. Doesn’t seem very likely.

“Most of the homicides in Venezuela are committed with firearms, which are widely available. While the government and opposition remain locked in turmoil, weapons have flooded onto the black market, where local police and armies have become the main smugglers. Worse, the government has implemented a policy to arm pro-government supporters, in order to contain protesters.”

So I guess it’s a moot point then. If we can’t remove guns from street gangs then I suppose the gov’t will go after law abiding gun owners since it’d be easier to grab them.
