A jury has found that Donald Trump sexually abused E. Jean Carroll.
The panel of six men and three women also found that Trump injured advice columnist Carroll in a Manhattan Bergdorf Goodman dressing room and defamed her, ordering the former President to pay her $5million in damages.
Trump has been accused of sexual misconduct or assault by more than two dozen women, but this has so far been the only case to end up before a jury.
Carroll, 79, sued for battery under the Adult Survivors Act, a law passed in New York that allowed a one year window for sexual assault claims normally outside of the statute of limitations.
Her claim for defamation was based on statements made by Trump, 76, when he was President and posts to Truth Social, his own social network in which he called her a liar.
Over two weeks the jury heard emotional testimony from three accusers and two of Carroll's friends, among other witnesses, while Trump himself was a no show.

No, the aren’t. Rape is the crime of forcing someone into engaging in a sexual act. Battery is the crime of engaging in unwanted physical contact with another person resulting in harm of one sort or another.
The testimony of any witness is suffice to prove any point of believed by the jury. The appellate court does NOT weigh the evidence. The starting point of the appellate analysis begins with the principle that the judgment is presumed to be correct and legal error by the trial court has to be affirmatively shown.
I know there are some concerns regarding interim rulings by the judge, but I can’t say I’ve studied the case and know what they are. That the jury did not find liability on the most serious allegation sets this judgment in concert. It will not be disturbed on appeal
Damn the media. In all the years I’ve paid attention never once have I heard media explain just how tough a road appeal is. I think the general population thinks an appeal is just a chance for a mulligan.
Nothing could be farther from accurate. If appealed,
I’d bet ten thousand bucks this verdict gets upheld
Appeal.
PAYING even a dime admits guilt.’’
I WOULD NEVER pay a penny—Would appeal it to anywhere I could.
Undoubtedly she has wealthy Trump hating backers.....
So it’s “Rape Light”?
GTFOOH
See my no. 82. Don’t appeal
Manhattan jury = “Orange Man Bad”
Atlanta jury = “Orange Man Bad”
DC jury = “Orange Man must be executed”
with 6 men and 3 women, it is difficult to believe that the jury found trump liable for anything. how many juror votes were needed for liability?
what is “wrong” with the men on the jury?
(aha, if this jury is in manhattan, i think the answer is probably evident...)
Why would anyone save their defense for an appeal, especially if it’s the case that new evidence can’t be introduced in an appeal, as the other poster said. That makes no sense. If his defense was good why didn’t he use it now?
It’s a contradiction at a minimum
Not likely at this point in his life.
I just don’t give a shit anymore! Even a dog in New York City’s would get the book thrown at him if he would even dare look at somebody’s leg to hump. This is beginning to be the biggest effing joke in the history of America’s judicial system. The black robes along with lawyers are beginning to become the most hated POS in America. Effing criminal, thieves! They’ll take you to the cleaners and would even send their own mothers to jail…that’s how effing evil and dysfunctional the law system has become…..trust nothing.
did you even read past the headline????
No,he’s wrong there. The fact that his name is Donald J Trump destroyed him.
Your theory runs counter to the legal maxim that you cannot complain of an error you intentionally committed.
My understanding was that the trial was about battery and defamation. It was a civil suit, so a rape conviction wasn’t on the table as a possible outcome. Battery would include sexual and non-sexual aggressions.
But best to wait until more comes out about the case and the verdict.
I disagree. The appoint of the appeal is to drown the case in legal proceedings, briefs, fine points of law, and to not leave it at what the jury decided, not because you’ll get a reversal, but because it’ll be good politically.
