Rising Fox News star Lawrence Jones has been tapped as the next rotating replacement for fired anchor Tucker Carlson's 8pm weekday spot.
Jones, 30, will take over as the next temporary host of the rebranded 'Fox News Tonight' starting on Monday, following Brian Kilmeade's weeklong stint as Carlson's replacement, a network spokesperson told DailyMail.com on Saturday.
Since January 2022, Jones has hosted a weekend primetime show on the network, 'Lawrence Jones Cross Country', making him the youngest black solo host of a cable news show in history.
The self-avowed libertarian also spends much of the week as a roving reporter for Fox & Friends, traveling the country to cover major news events.
Meanwhile, conservative news outlet Newsmax is making a major push to woo Carlson, even floating the possibility that he could run programming for the entire channel, and not just his own show, sources told TMZ.
Carlson has been cryptic about his plans in remarks this week to DailyMail.com, and a video statement posted on Twitter, and is currently barred from formal job negotiations due to his Fox News contract.
While Newsmax hasn't made any formal job offer, execs at the channel have been peppering Carlson's confidants with informal proposals that he could take a leading role in rebranding the channel and overseeing programming, according to TMZ.
The Newsmax website has also spent much of the week publishing stories bashing Fox News and fawning over Carlson, with a banner headline on Saturday morning, citing a poll, reading: 'Tucker Carlson More Popular Than Fox News.'
Carlson, 53, reportedly made up to $20 million annually at Fox News as the channel's highest-rated primetime host.
In the wake of Carlson's April 24 firing, ratings shot up for Newsmax's Eric Bolling, who hosts a show in the same 8pm Eastern slot as

From what I’ve read Tucker has 60 million dollars riding on this negotiation, the last thing he’s going to do is endanger that amount of money, which for 99.9% of the population is too big of an amount of money to walk away from, which is why he’s in Florida relaxing and planning his future and negotiating with Fox News.
Jones is okay, but I don’t have cable. I used find a live stream of Tucker when something newsworthy was happening. It takes a little effort to find a livestream since it seems no one consistently streams. Jones isn’t worth the effort. This past week I was watching alternatives on NewsMax, America’s Voice and others. I’m also just enjoying reading.
I’d just assume watch Lawrence Welk
Lawrence Jones does a reasonably good imitation of a Conservative, but I am not 100% convinced.
Tucker Carlson informed and inspired me.
When the Jones show comes on Saturday evening, I almost always flip to a movie channel.
I like him.
I like this guy a lot.
But if they replaced carlson for speaking truth to power.
What is he going to talk about?
you wont find me trying to find out.
Late Night comedy hosts do not make $20 million, and they have celebrity guests on almost every night, plus major corporate sponsorship.
Tucker's main sponsor is The Pillow Guy.
The only guy in Fox stable I think could do an adequate job would be Will Cain.
Agree. He is pretty solid and does not hold back which could mean he is as risky as Tucker.
I’m just repeating what I’ve read.
Here you go.
Most of the people you are talking about on comedy shows are getting beat in the ratings by Gutfeld at Fox.
It’s entirely conceivable that he was making 20 million a year.
It’s only for a week.
They may give Tulsi Gabbard a try. Sge was a regular guest on Tucker, but may be too monotone to attract viewers for 5 hours a week.
No thanks. I left Fox News in 2008. No way I’d ever go back, even if they had Jesus in a prime-time slot.
Tucker doesn’t want another gig right now.
Fox News is dead to me. I must admit I had been watching the weekend show with Pete Hegseth and Will Cain, but no more.

Thought the same myself. The THINGS we do for LOVE and MONEY!
What is he going to talk about?
Good point! A substantial number of people are asking that very same question.
They’re rotating hosts, for one week each.
Dear Fox staff reading here to gauge reactions to your desperate attempts to woo back viewers, please send some of your staff to rural Texas to ask us in person what we think of the Fox News-Tucker Carlson event. You’re too afraid to do so.
Carlson should go to MSNBC as the loyal opposition. Sort of like a Hannity and Colmes but should be Reid and Carlson. I would pay to watch that all day.
This is just a one week stint.
My guess is Waters, Ingraham, or Hannity get Tucker's slot.
What Kilmeade, Jones, and other guest hosts are actually vying for is the slot left open after they shift the whole lineup.
