The Florida House passed a bill on Friday with a 76-34 vote that would permit the state leader to run for the presidency without stepping down from their current position.
The bill’s approval comes only a few days after it was passed in the state Senate by a vote of 28 to 12. The bill is now on its way to Governor Ron DeSantis’ desk for approval.
The timing of the bill’s approval and Governor DeSantis’ potential presidential announcement adds to the uniqueness of the situation.

I’m terrified. 😜
Good observation.
first of we should not be unwilling to vote for either candidate if they win the primary. second I think DeSantis will run if there is any weakness on Trumps part between now and the start of the primary. this is the way it should be. next most probable is that DeSantis wont run till 2028. the reason why is trump has not made a major misstep yet. The place we hear the most about DeSantis running is from the democrat operatives that want us at each other’s throat...calm down let the primary happen next year and support whomever is chosen. we can’t afford another 4-year term of democrat rule.
So you’re OK with Biden being in office four more years?
Some folks in Trump's cult rather give Biden four more years than for us to be logical about 2024 and realize that maybe we should switch horses if we want to win.
Did the Democrats go with Hillary in 2020 after she lost in 2016?
That would be Paul Ryan Richard Barris, and numerous gullible types righ here. I’m surprised Trump fell for it.
ThankQ* for admitting it!
Just like the dems, make rules that allow one to bend laws...
This is not bending the law, it is following the correct process to change the law. This is the way it should be done in our democratic republic. If you don’t like the law, you try to get the law changed. If you can get the legislature to change the law and the executive to sign it, great. Nothing unethical or underhanded in that. That is the way our system is designed to work, rather than just ignoring the law, changing the law by executive order, or judge-shopping to get the law thrown out. The way Florida went about this is the constitutional, conservative way. You just don’t like it because you fear Deantis getting into the race for some strange reason.
Sod Off, Swampy.
You're the one posting articles from Mediaite as legit news on Free Republic.
As far as I know, he made a commitment to the people of Florida. Now he’s helping to rejigger a law so he won’t have to commit to the people of Florida for four years of good governance, going by his record so far.
So he goes from being Governor DeSantis to Governor Turkey.
You are correct!
Maybe he should sign it in Israel.
If you want loyalty in politics - get a dog.
Nah. DeSantis should sign it at Disney and invite Trump and Dylan Mulvaney as the guests of honor.
If Dylan feeds Don’s ego sufficiently he might score a prime campaign job along with all the former Bush campaigners that Trump has hired.
He is immensely popular to the voters of Florida. States can pass whatever laws they wish as long as they are in line with their Constitution. If the people of Florida don’t like it, they can elect people who will repeal it.
Attacking the messenger because you cannot refute the FACTS is a liberal tactic. I bet you drink Bud Light. Trump defends them.
Nope.
Posting left wing sources on FR is the mark of a troll.
Get stuffed.
I confirmed it on Open Secrets. But you can continue to live in your bubble world and call people names.
