In Slap to DeSantis, Steube Is 5th Fla. GOP Rep. to Endorse Trump

"I'm happy to endorse Donald J. Trump for president in 2024," Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., told Newsmax Monday, making him the fifth member member of Congress from his state to back the former president over Gov. Ron DeSantis, a presumptive GOP presidential challenger.

Other Florida GOP representatives to endorse Trump include Reps. Byron Donalds, Matt Gaetz, Cory Mills, and Anna Paulina Luna.

"He's the only person that can reverse, on day one, all these disastrous policies of the Biden administration and the type of things that have happened under the Biden administration would have never happened under President Trump," Steube told "Rob Schmitt Tonight."

Steube elaborated on specific areas that Trump would be able to reverse course on, such as support of the military, veterans, and fixing the results of the Biden administration's withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Regarding choosing Trump over his own state's governor, Ron DeSantis, who is currently undeclared as a presidential candidate but is widely seen as Trump's main 2024 competitor, Steube said that, even though DeSantis is a great governor, it "wasn't a difficult decision" for him.

"President Trump has always been there both personally and professionally. I think the America First agenda is what people in Florida are looking for," Steube stated, adding that DeSantis was just reelected to his current position less than 6 months ago and that he hopes DeSantis will continue to concentrate on the great job that he's doing as Florida's governor."I hear from constituents all the time that want him to finish out his term and support President Trump, and I'm honored to be part of President Trump's team," Steube said.

Can we just get Trump to nuke DC in 24 and desantis to build something new in 28?

I hope that in Trump’s quest to burn DeSantis, he doesn’t leave the Governor unpopular so as to provoke an overall rebuke of the GOP in Florida.

How is that a slap to Desantis? Good grief. The dude prefers one candidate to another. That’s not a “slap”. Folks trying to make something out of nothing.

Endorsing Trump is not a dismissal of DeSantis. It’s the best value for a successful future that not only hits the ground running, but has been ever since the January 6th inauguration. Trump has been trying to rip out the Beltway cabal since day #1. That has value far and above any hurt feelings in politics. DeSantis knows that.

I’m for either guy but I don’t think that either guy can win because the dems control the state election machinery in most of the swing states.

DeSantis should run in ‘28, you’re right. He can finish his term as governor and would then have two years to campaign.

You're right it wasn't a slap. It was more like a take-no-notice or a pay-no-attention-to, or at most, a cold-shoulder.

If DeSantis wants endorsement, I think a good first step for him would be to, you know, declare his candidacy.

Can’t really complain if he chooses not to do that and the endorsements go to actual candidates instead.

Not that I’ve heard. What could he complain about? That people aren’t endorsing his non-candidacy?

Steube doesn’t want to lose DeSantis as our governor either.

Stuebe and Donalds both got endorsements from Trump for the 2022 elections. Of course they endorsed Trump. They don’t want to hear his whiny “disloyalty” harangue and deal with triggered Trump worshippers at townhalls. They know their endorsement doesn’t mean squat except to feed Trump’s fragile ego.

If questioned by his Desantis supporting constituents Stuebe can allows blame his endorsement on his fall off of his roof.

DeSantis has not announced a presidential run. So why would *anybody* endorse him as a candidate for president?

This is absurd.

We’re not Trump worshippers we are folks who want our country back. He has been tried and had succeeded and now is not the time for spin-offs.

I doubt these Trump endorsers are dissing DeSantis. Floridians would rather he stay in Florida until he is term limited. His chances of being elected in a corrupt federal election are small. We need to fortify Florida as rapidly as possible.
