Kansas City, Mo. Mayor Quinton Lucas (D) said early Wednesday that the recent shooting of 16-year-old Ralph Yarl “has everything to do with race.”
Police say Yarl was shot twice by Andrew Lester, an 84-year-old white homeowner, after the Black teenager accidentally went to the wrong address to pick up his younger brothers.
“This defendant, in the probable cause statement, is indicated to have said that he was afraid of Ralph because he is a tall, Black man,” Lucas told “CNN This Morning” on Wednesday.
“He thought he was in some way menacing or scary. I don’t think that was true,” Lucas said.

Wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that 40% of all violent crime is caused by 2% of the population that resemble the man who was shot.
So yes. It DOES have “something” to do with race. Can’t argue with him there.
Lets hope this man has a mental issue that mitigates this act.
You mean like situational awareness?
He has a point though. I’m sure this old man watch the local news and saw the face of crime every night, and so he may have legitimately been prejudiced when he saw a black man show up at his doorstep.
Indeed. We have a "problem race" in this country. That "problem race" needs to clean up its act. It's unfortunate that members of this race who are not themselves problems get caught up in the trouble.
Again:
We the People must protect each other on the streets AND in the courtroom.
“Sounds like a tragic accident to me.”
Sounds like an unjustified shooting to me. But not necessarily about race. My aunt once pulled a gun on a white guy pounding on her door at 10pm. She had already told him to go away. When her dog started barking again, she went to the door and he had a face mask on and a crowbar. She pointed a gun and he fled. The cops told her there had a been a string of burglaries matching that MO.
But she didn’t automatically pull the trigger. And she didn’t pull the gun out the first time, just told him loudly to go away. When he didn’t...
The media has their marching orders.
Dementia or something along those lines.
White people aren’t human to the media.
It’s irrelevant the teenager parked in his driveway, didn’t have his phone on him, didn’t actually know what house he was going to and came to the front door to ring the bell. The elderly man was asleep. They only bring this up to normalize the teenager and help him appear as normal a victim as possible. It’s a tragic confluence of factors and the teenager survived.
My problem isn’t with any of that because I have empathy for the elderly and am not triggered looking for racism for power and profit. My problem is with the second shot while the teenager was allegedly on the ground. At this point the elderly man has neutralized the threat, is able to secure himself inside the home and call to report the incident.
I want to know more about how the teenager picked the wrong house. Obviously he wasn’t following GPS if he didn’t have his phone. He would have had to be familiar enough with the neighborhood to know street names but not enough to know there’s two. Why were his twin brothers at a house he wasn’t familiar with? Who gave him incomplete information as to the address? Was it the twins? A parent or other responsible adult?
We cannot metaphorically or literally burn the neighborhood because an elderly person was afraid of someone trying to come into his house late at night just because someone else feels guilty for putting the teenager in this situation and he got shot.
We have to be fair in justice. I think it’s wrong to assume racism because the probable cause statement says the old man saw a tall black man trying to get into the door. It’s an accurate description of the teenager. Reading more into that statement of facts says more about the mayor and activists than it does this old man.
I have seen different versions in media reports, just saw one that said he had just gone to bed and most I had see said he was asleep. I suspect he won’t have an easy time if it comes to trial given the culture pressure cooker the Democrats have brought us to and the incident attention (the mayor and Joe himself got involved).
Seems to be an epidemic of that in police circles from officers stating they were afraid for their lives. But they have bigger guns than a .32 so survivors are few.
“There are not enough well educated, hardworking, honest negro encounters to make up for the negative encounters.”
For some reason a white woman being beaten by a black mob is no big deal, but a black kid injured by an old white guy is a national crisis.
Black on black crime is ignored by the same social justice warriors which is ironic because it makes blacks largely invisible and only victims. There should be more reporting on these cases. Every murder in Chicago, Detroit, DC, Baltimore, Los Angeles, Portland, Cleveland deserves column inches.
It does have everything to do with race because if a white kid had been shot we would have never heard about it. But because so many black kids are so dangerous, the homeowner panicked and pulled the trigger seeing a black teen at his door. If you want to blame someone, blame the mobs in Chicago and LA or the constant murder of blacks by blacks and everyone else they cross paths with. Yes, race did play a part because black teens have put themselves in this position.
No idea.
I blame this one on the media. They have been obsessed with trumpeting black crime so that they can demonize whites that they created this fear of black youth. At the same time they have been for riots and de-funding police both of which exacerbate the problem. Unfortunately for the urban black community, the losers are they.
Did he really shoot and hit the boy twice?
Or did his gun just go off accidentally as he was then carelessly handling it? I can see multiple shots sometimes happening, especially in feeble hands.
The irony of identity politics is that it devalues everyone. The more you are categorized the less you are valued for your intrinsic humanity. The more you are categorized the more limited you are based on convention of what boxes you tick. It’s a kind of subtle caste system and anti-egalitarian. It’s part of the Left’s fascism.
The more we get away from “do unto others” and into social credit scores the worse off the species
I’ve read he shot once through the glass door and then went outside and shot again while the teenager was on the ground. It was early reporting of the family’s version of events so the accuracy is unclear.
