WVa state lawmaker Elliott Pritt switches from Dem to GOP

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The Republican supermajority in West Virginia's House of Delegates became more lopsided Monday after Del. Elliott Pritt switched from the Democratic Party, the state's GOP leader said.

Pritt, a teacher, is in his first term after defeating a Republican incumbent in the 2022 election.

“I want to welcome Delegate Elliott Pritt to the Republican Party,” West Virginia Republican Party chairwoman Elgine McArdle said in a statement. “Like so many West Virginians, Delegate Pritt has recognized that the Democratic Party of today is not the Democratic Party that our parents grew up with.”

The move gives the GOP 89 members in the House, while the Democrats' ranks dwindled to 11. Pritt's decision was already accounted for by late morning on the West Virginia Legislature's official House roster.

Pritt had been the last Democrat in the House in the state's southern coalfields.

The 34-member state Senate also has a GOP supermajority with 31 Republicans and three Democrats.

The move continues a Republican wave in the state that started a decade ago. After the 2014 election, the GOP took control of the state Senate and House from Democrats for the first time in more than eight decades.

Southern Rats are dying off.

Now they get elected as RINO’s and get appointed to the leadership of the GOP. The end results is the same as if they kept running as democrats.

“Pritt had been the last Democrat in the House in the state’s southern coalfields.”

I guess my age is catching up, but I have no idea what that means. I thought Pritt was a teacher.

For example, South Carolina and its gifts to the Republican party: Lindsey Graham and Nancy Mace.

Excuse me if I don’t get all fuzzy inside when I hear about a RAT going RINO. No way they discard their RAT brainwashing and become conservative. Just because they come into the light re guns doesn’t make them conservative. Heck, even liberTARDians own guns, but they’re still rank liberal.

Obama fought the war on coal in WV. Obama suffered no casualties in that war.

It is time to take out Obama et all for their war crimes in the coalfields.

Yet somehow, this state that is deep, deep red keeps electing a Democrat Senator, giving the Democrats just enough to cling to power in DC.

Funny that.

Obama, the Black President killed the coal fields, the related businesses and whole towns

Obama should cease to be for his war against coal crimes in WV

The war against coal and the current was on oil must be won. Winning will be the result of a counterattack that destroys progressive people by the city full.

That's what I was going to say, but you beat me to it. Expecting Manchin to squeak out another win in 2024 to help retain Schumer as Senate Majority Leader.

West Virginia has more white people on welfare than any place on the planet outside the UK. There probably hasn’t been a true Republican elected there in more than a hundred years.

The state has the socioeconomic structure of a Third World tourist destination … but without the nice weather or any tourist attractions.

In WV, you *are* what you need to be.
Ideology is not the determining factor.

Why were people like this guy democrats in the first place? The answer is almost always because their mom and dad were and that is it.
