The homeowner who allegedly shot a black teen in the head after he mistakenly rang his doorbell in Kansas City was hit with two felony counts on Monday as prosecutors said he could spend the rest of his life in jail.
Andrew D. Lester, 85, was charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action for the shooting of 16-year-old Ralph Yarl in a crime that had a “racial component,” according to the Clay County Prosecutor Office.
Lester was not immediately arrested on Monday evening. A bond of $200,000 was set for the suspect.......

the man is 85 yrs old, and might have been scared.. but how would you react when its dark out and a black comes and rings your doorbell for no reason ummmm
“slam the door shut and lock it.”
My door is shut and locked by 8 pm. It’s got lots of glass to see who is outside.
So, I have read he ‘rang the doorbell’ and ‘he entered the home’.
Big difference. I don’t expect the media to tel the truth....
If that kid walked into that house, the old man was justified and it was just a sad event for both people.
If the kid didn’t then who knows how this will shake out?
If the kid walked into that house it seems wrong to charge this guy with two felonies.
Please post the links.....thanks
Except for paying your taxes. You must prove your innocence.
That isn’t true according to Nancy Pelosi. /s
Lately all we see are, for the most part, black gangsters. , involved in shootings, assaults, burglaries etc. Here you have an old guy, most probably living in a black area, leery of violent crime. He gets a knock on the door sees a black guy and panics. It’s too bad but violent crime is out of control
If that’s all the teen did was ring the doorbell, charging the homeowner was the right thing to do. If, however, it can be shown that the teen tried to enter the premises without permission, than the homeowner was right to shoot.
I wonder whose narrative it is?
Good advice.
And remember, about a week ago, there was another story here about a man who answered his door with a gun.
In that case, the police had the wrong address, and they shot him.
The last time someone rang my door late at night, I went out the other door and checked who they were. I was armed but they didn’t know it. It was someone trying to return my neighbors lost dog. Completely legit.
A grazing wound. Very superficial.
That article alone has caused some confusion. Did the kid ring the doorbell and then walk in? If the old guy shot him in his house the he was tragically justified to be afraid.
I think the mob disagrees, yes?
Always lock your doors!
Thanks. I’m just trying to figure out what happened.
“In America everyone is assumed innocent until proven guilty.”
Uh, not the new America.
