While ignoring a cornucopia of crises in his two-plus years as Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg has found a supposed crisis that he will address, and it sounds a lot like his previously trotted-out theory that bridges are a tool of racism.
Speaking with Al Sharpton on MSNBC, Buttigieg declared "we've got a crisis when it comes to roadway fatalities in America" before making his usual pivot to frame the problem as one of race.
"We lose about 40,000 people every year," Buttigieg told Sharpton, adding roadway fatalities are "a level that's comparable to gun violence" for emphasis. "And we see a lot of racial disparities," Buttigieg continued.
Specifically, according to Buttigieg, "black and brown Americans, tribal citizens, and rural residents" are "much more likely to lose their lives — whether it's in a car or a pedestrian being hit by a car."
Buttigieg argued that the racial disparity is "related to discrimination" and "even the ways roads are designed and built" such that minorities don't have "access to a safe street design that's got crosswalks and good lighting."

Bullshit. Even in the garbage part of town, there are street signs, crosswalks, even traffic signals.
Peter-puffer Buttgeek really thinks that the black and brown folks are just too stupid to read the signs and use the crosswalks.

I observe that they deliberately REFUSE to use the crosswalks.
Check the jaywalking stats. They are definitely not in proportion to the population.
Just as we put up "deer crossing" signs where there are trees close to the road on either side, maybe we need some other crossing sign where a low income apartment is on one side of the road and a quicky mart is on the other. Ain't nobody got time to walk down to the crosswalk.
What is the one major thing one has to do to survive around motorized vehicles? FOLLOW THE RULES! We see it every day. Minorities think they are above the rules. They jaywalk and expect vehicles to wait. Why? Because they are being told they are most important. They are told, “It’s not just that they matter, but that the world is their oyster.” It seems to me that this whole thing is very close to saying that math is racist. You can accept that concept, but you do it at your own peril. And that is exactly what happens on the roadway. They’ll pass on a curve or over a hill because they are told the world will wait for them. They never learn to read so they don’t understand highway signs. Another example that buttgig is dumb as a box of rocks.
I’ve been driving for 60 years or so. I can tell you the reason isn’t that Whitey is out to get them. It’s that the beloved minorities drive irresponsibly and dangerously.
They keep trying similar things to put the blame on innocent people, like that Covid was killing more minorities, but deliberately and intentionally hide the fact that their beloved minorities are fat and in bad health.
What an embarassment.
I notice he didn’t mention the actual disparity: ie, black people are 13% of the US population and (13+X) black people were killed... or similar.
I am always suspicious when they leave out important evidentiary information.

Does he understand what a tax base is in a town or city??? More money coming in means sidewalks & street crossings. They thought he was a joke in Indiana and now I see why.
Simply stated: a large tax base means better everything. Small to no tax base means less of the good stuff. He can’t be this dumb can he? It’s got to be pandering.
