The shadow of Walmart’s logo and name hung above the Chatham Supercenter location on Sunday, its last day of operation, as dozens of shoppers streamed in to shop among increasingly empty shelves.
Less than a week ago, the company announced it would close its store at 8431 S. Stewart Ave. along with others in Little Village, Kenwood and Lakeview, saying they were “losing tens of millions” annually and that losses had doubled in the last five years.
The company also noted the $70 million it spent in recent years creating healthcare facilities at its city stores and the Walmart Academy training center, which were also set to close.
Myesha McGarner, a 30-year-old South Shore resident and regular shopper at the Chatham location, said she hadn’t realized it was closing until she entered to find empty shelves and a “ghostly” atmosphere.
She called the company’s explanation a “cop out” and “infuriating,” and said she thought the closures had more to do with the area’s history of disinvestment.

Over the past 10-15 years Family Dollar made a massive move into urban ghetto America. For the time being, they are the big blue crap hole city WalMart. Of course, they are hemorrhaging from shoplifting and continue to raise prices to let the unfortunate honest customers pay for it. Eventually the dollar stores will leave as well. Just as Indians control the independent motel industry, Arab immigrants, who control the liquor/snack/“food” stores in the ghettos, will be the only option left.

Myesha McGarner is the perfect poster girl for what’s wrong with the majority (NOT ALL!) of American black people in America. Black THIEVES put this store out of business NOT Walmart ownership. Admit that Myesha and millions might have some sympathy for you!

Handing out “free” food will just perpetuate the pathologies that led to the problem in the first place.
Eventually we will be like the jetsons where technology rules. Obviously, God planned earth from begging to end. He’s aware of how awesome most of the progress will be. There will always be warts and flushing out things. But in the end it’s going to be amazing what will be done especially with medical advances.
And that’s why Walmart closed their store. They are not a bunch of one-time free stuff community do-gooders. They are open almost every day of the year. Allowing thieves to come in and take “free stuff” every day, isn’t good for business. Look it up.
The solution is on the way. When the freeloaders get their 5 million from the San Fernasco “Reparations” Boyz, they can buy their own Walmarts. AWESOME!!!
The lack of “manned” checkout aisles is why I refuse to shop for groceries at Walmart. I can go to Market Basket here in NH, pay the same prices and it takes 5 minutes to check out with a cart full of groceries.
Every other Walmart shopper pays for it in the form of higher prices to make up for the losses.

MY ‘Local” Walmart-—25 miles one way-—has only 2-3 checkers agt any given time.
The Self-checkout has 6 stations & 3-4 MONITORS there.
IF I WERE IN CHARGE-—I would CLOSE the self checkouts & put those employees back into checkstands.
Have an extra checkout for “items under 10” if necessary.
Do the people who love this convenience of “palm pay” realize that they have just been fingerprinted also so now the police and the government have your prints in their system? If you have never been arrested or been fingerprinted for a security job or to be bonded...you will be now.
