South Side {Chicago} residents upset by Walmart closure, community group fills the gap by handing out free food
Chicago Sun Times ^ | Apr 16, 2023 | Violet Miller

The shadow of Walmart’s logo and name hung above the Chatham Supercenter location on Sunday, its last day of operation, as dozens of shoppers streamed in to shop among increasingly empty shelves.

Less than a week ago, the company announced it would close its store at 8431 S. Stewart Ave. along with others in Little Village, Kenwood and Lakeview, saying they were “losing tens of millions” annually and that losses had doubled in the last five years.

The company also noted the $70 million it spent in recent years creating healthcare facilities at its city stores and the Walmart Academy training center, which were also set to close.

Myesha McGarner, a 30-year-old South Shore resident and regular shopper at the Chatham location, said she hadn’t realized it was closing until she entered to find empty shelves and a “ghostly” atmosphere.

She called the company’s explanation a “cop out” and “infuriating,” and said she thought the closures had more to do with the area’s history of disinvestment.

I would suggest by 2030....there won’t be a single major city on the eastern half of the country with a Wal-Mart store existing. As the theft issue triggers closures...the theft crew will find fewer available stores, and move onto the remaining ones. In Chicago, you might have to drive 30 miles to the nearest grocery.

I’ll even predict ‘club-stores’ opening where you have to be a member and have present a credit card upon entry.

The residents want to blame everyone but their own community. Economic ignorance.

Hmmm...apparently Walmart was de facto handing out free food...its just not sustainable.

So. Enjoy your desert. You created it.

This is what happens to your community when you are taught by your leaders, your political party, your churches, and your parents that you are entitled because you are "special"...because of justice and equality.

These people were never taught the simple principles of business because they are liberals and liberals hate business (business is all about greed and hard work) . They hate business and they steal from businesses in their communities.

But don't worry. Your local communist government should be able to provide all the justice and equality--and stuff-- you deserve.

BTW, it's not racist to hate businesses that serve your communities just like it's not racist to hate white people.

But when you hate people (and businesses), they avoid you like the plague.

Buh bye, Wally World.

Cities will just add more electric busses to shuttle the shoppers 30 miles

Those will surely be free to buy, operate, and maintain

the area’s history of disinvestment.

This woman needs to look into the definition of the word "disinvestment" and its root, "investment."

She obviously doesn't know what they mean.

There is theft at Wallyworld ? That has to be a misprint. Wallyworld is a store in which no thieves shop. Those honest shoppers are going to ruin Wallyworld. The honest shoppers are spending actual money. That’s insanity

She isn’t the brightest bulb in the box. Why did she think that the area had a history of disinvestment?!

Until thieves are dealt with properly (and harshly), no store in its right mind will do business in that area.

They used to hang horse thieves, didn’t they? Perhaps that wasn’t a bad approach. The deceased seldom steal.

Professional thieves and amateur thieves deeply-saddened.

No longer able to eat for free and shop for free at this particular WalMart.

That is correct.

How many of Myesha McGarner’s close relatives are, or have been, in prison?

Maybe “community groups” should have been previously volunteering to monitor the Walmart for shoplifters and stopping the people from walking out the doors with Walmart’s merchandise.

Well gee, when you have constant and rampant theft in the area, when you have lax or indeed no law enforcement, business do not want to pour money down that rathole for long.

Rocket science!

Free riots, free food, free crime of all kinds. In fact the Walmart stores closed due to theft.

It will be that way with Amazon One and other similar methods. Tagged items that will let you "walk out" - just like Amazon does.

The theft will lead to the precursor to the Mark of the Beast systems. The world is not there - yet.

Amazon One - Palm-print scanner

Pay with your hand - Forerunner to the coming Mark of the Beast (Revelation 13)

Using one's hands to pay for food. A boxed "convenience store" (Hudson Nonstop, LAX airport, Dallas Love Field airport), to Arbor Trails Whole Foods (Austin, Texas), to paying for food at Panera Bread, to other Whole Foods stores (owned by Amazon).

Yes, I use Amazon for shopping from time-to-time but this "scan-your-hand-to-pay" is already alive and in operation - no doubt it will continue to expand / grow in acceptance. The conditioning (intentional or unintentional, it will make no difference) has started.

I'm sure the people in the pics think they're showing the latest "cool thing" - possibly mocking and laughing at any reference to the "Mark of the Beast" - this is just a sampling of the pictures I found.

By the time the actual Mark of the Beast, these kinds of payment systems will be fully-embedded in society I think.

Amazon One

The world is not there - YET. But the conditioning, intentional or unintentional - it will make no difference. Fast, easy, secure, convenient. IMHO, cash will be outlawed. Digital Currency 100% will be the future. /Captain Obvious

And so shall the world be prepared for 7 years of 'Peace and Security'
