As Walmart shuts down four stores in crime-ridden Dem-led Chicago, DailyMail.com lists all the big box shops - from Macy's to Target - which have closed due to millions in losses from rampant theft

Major retailers in the US have been forced to shut down stores due to millions of dollars in losses as rampant theft plagues big box stores across the country.

This week, Walmart announced it will shut down four of its stores in Chicago just weeks after America's biggest employer shuttered its only stores in Portland.

It comes as shoplifting reaches alarming levels and other large retailers, including Target, Macy's and Best Buy, are now making good on threats to shutter outlets if petty crime was not lowered.

In 2021 retailers lost a combined $94.5billion to shrink, a term used to describe theft and other types of inventory loss. And organized retail crime incidents soared by 26.5 per cent in the same year, according to the 2022 National Retail Security Survey.

Along with brazen daylight thefts, self-checkouts have also made it easier for people to walk out without paying for items.

Progressive district attorneys in cities like Chicago, New York, Portland and California have also been blamed for effectively legalizing shoplifing with either not prosecuting thefts under $950, or letting criminals off with a slap on the wrist.

Here DailyMail.com lists all the big box stores which have been forced to close their doors after being savaged by rising theft.

Walmart

Walmart decided to shut 17 of its stores across nine states after CEO Doug McMillon warned in December that theft was the highest it's ever been around the country and if it did not slow down, stores would have to close.

And the company announced on Tuesday it would be shutting half its Chicago stores, mostly located on the crime-ridden city's south and west sides, because they are losing tens of millions each year.

Apparently, the Target on Moreland Ave is an absolute nightmare when it comes to shoplifting. I was told that Target has some kind of deal with the city that keeps them from closing the doors, so they just use all the theft as a tax write off.

Food deserts? POC hardest hit, trans and black POC hit the hardest?

I fully expect if this keeps up, the Democrats and their subordante Uniparty Republicans will pass a bill that big
box stores in the ‘inner city’ can only close with approval from Washington. It will be titled something along the lines of “The Inner City Access to Food Civil Rights Act of 2023”.
Guaranteed to sail through House & Senate, with Joe 81millionvotes Biden signing it in the Rose Garden with all the pet press present and glowing.

Just imagine Walmart hires some woke Ivy League wacko who comes up with the idea to continue the looting, only more organized. Walmart will load up grocery carts full of items from each department. The looters will just wait outside, in line for their cart. No money involved, just bring back the cart. Once this innovative program gets rolling, there will be many nonprofits who will complain about the ‘equity’ of each loot-cart. Legislation will be passed, and mandatory Cart Looting Equity Managers will be hired nationwide to ‘spread the wealth.’

Food desert ??

Back a few years ago in Newark NJ n, after complaints that no major supermarkets would locate in the Central Ward (Amish country) After all sort of political pressure were able to get a supermarket in the area

Featured meat market, produce section , had all the amenities

Opened to great fanfare, featured on the TV news

Closed less than 2 years later - no better in the neighborhoods would shop there

So next time hear politicians complaining about food deserts think of this

You do not want to be in a large city when the balloon goes up and the EBT system is wiped out along with cell service, internet, power, water and public services like police and fire.

It’s coming...

I’m in the middle of nowhere, on a farm, with two wells, adequate solar power, large greenhouse, my adoring cat, ham radio gear...etc

Be prepared.

Best Buy is closing a lot of stores. News articles claim they are moving to on-line.

Who can blame these stores for closing in areas where massive thefts are actually encouraged by governmental/political figures.

They b*tched about ‘food deserts’ and ‘drugstore deserts’ so major corporate chains opened stores. Then, rampant theft happened and law enforcement/prosecution was nil.
