Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell has been out of the public eye for weeks, following a serious fall that hospitalized him. Now multiple sources confirm that Senators John Barrasso of North Dakota, John Cornyn of Texas and John Thune of South Dakota are actively reaching out to fellow Republican senators in efforts to prepare for an anticipated leadership vote — a vote that would occur upon announcement that McConnell would be retiring from his duties as leader, and presumably the Senate itself.
One source says that Cornyn has been particularly active in his preparations, taking fellow senators with whom he has little in common to lunch in attempts to court them.
Requests are being targeted at a plethora of conservative senators, including the sixteen who voted to delay the leadership election earlier this year, a proxy for opposition to McConnell’s leadership. Rick Scott, the Florida senator and former NRSC head who challenged McConnell, ultimately received ten protest votes. These members could prove key to determining the next Republican leader. Queries are also being made internally about the rules regarding replacement, and how the contest would be structured given the lack of an obvious heir apparent.

Please no one over 70.
Better an old louse than a young nit.
Cornyn or Thune, however, are just as bad as McConnell.
KY Governor picks whoever he wants.. which in this case would be a democrat.
Can’t come soon enough, the traitor!
I don’t believe that became law, or the (D) Governor didnt sign it into law. Could be wrong.

Hard to believe that corrupt insider idiot is still around...
He’s probably been in government since he was 20...What a loser.
They will without a doubt replace him with similar
Zero chance anyone else
Voters of Kentucky, please try to get it right this time.
Great info. You done good.
I don’t remember the vote but I do remember the discussion of it upcoming and that the GOP had the votes to override. Unfortunately I can’t readily find anything online because all that’s on the web are stories about how the legislature just overrode the veto of the so-called “anti-trans”
Bill. Stopping the mutilitstion of children and getting rid of McConnell would be a two-fer to remember
John Cornyn and John Thune UGH!!!!!
Define winning.
Not another RINO.
“Rand would be great.”
Rand is great in many ways except his isolationist/Libertarian views on foreign policy.
Too damned many politicians die in office when they should have retired years ago.
Voters of Kentucky, please try to get it right this time.

They won’t be given a chance to get it right, it’ll be:
Deep State #1
Deep State #2
Deep State #3
That’ll be their choices.
No, you don’t want Barrassos. He is my senator and is worthless. He has his nose so far up McConnells rear that you can’t tell where one begins and the other ends. He would, however be a slight improvement over Cornyn, but only slight. None of the three mentioned would be an improvement over McConnell.
Yea looks like the KY legislature overrode the veto.. I read the law, but its kind of confusing (as most are). Also language, about WHEN the vacancy occurs, and how the special election will be held.
I’m pretty sure he has to choose from a list that the retiring Senators party furnishes
