CHICAGO -- Nineteen people have been shot, three o fatally, in weekend gun violence across Chicago, police said.
A teen girl was killed in a shooting early Sunday morning on Chicago's South Side, police said. The shooting happened in the Washington Heights neighborhood's 10600-block of South Sangamon Street at about 12:51 a.m., police said.
Two people were shot, one fatally, Saturday evening in Grand Crossing on the South Side.
About 5:40 p.m., Timothy Taylor, 30, and a 24-year-old man were on the street in the 7000-block of South Lafayette Avenue when a vehicle approached and someone inside opened fire, Chicago police said.
Three people were wounded in a shootout early Saturday in Avalon Park. Two men, 35 and 36, were walking to their vehicle in the 8000-block of South Anthony Avenue when a 30-year-old man they knew approached, police said. After then men fought, the men began firing at each other, officials said.
Last weekend, at least 21 people were shot, four fatally, in gun violence across Chicago, police said.

Hardly a record approaching number for a weekend. However, as the weather warms up I suspect the numbers will go up as well.
Plus, they have this great new mayor who, from what I understand, is all for even less policing and more social worker programs to combat crime. I do not recall him listing “punishment for crimes” on his “to-do” list. The only punishment is to be more taxes on the few remaining businesses in Chicago.

I remember visiting a company in Chicago in the mid 1970s. They were in the process of moving out of that crap hole to the southern part of the state. The real funny thing is that the marketing manager thought we were from Portland OR when we were really Portland ME and he stated that he hated to work with those idiots on the east coast. The sales guy nudged him and whispered that we were from Maine. That immediately turned into a clarification how he really meant NY and NJ.
However, if he’s still alive, I’d wonder how he feels about Portland OR now. His opinion of Chicago was certainly dead on.

My coworkers outside Detroit just poo-pood the supposed dangers of Detroit. Not unsafe at all they said. The danger was only in certain places and at certain times and nobody, nobody they knew would ever have any reason to be in those places. I think the same is true of Chicago or any city.
My parent’s former neighborhood in Tampa was super safe until, one day it wasn’t. It went from being a lushly treed middle-class neighborhood to drug deals conducted on street corners by underaged black boys wearing Mr. T starter kits. What happened? As the elderly residents died off the city took over their houses for taxes and resettled Section 8 housing into these former safe spaces. The city moved the ghetto into the suburbs. The little boys threatened my elderly father with guns. He thought they were about ten years old, wearing gold chains and selling drugs. The dealers use children because when they turn eighteen their criminal records are erased.
Eventually, all of Chicago’s gangbangers will be resettled into the suburbs and Chicago’s shooting problem will be someplace else.
