They would assume that he can’t win and that the actuarial charts will prevent a 2028 Trump campaign. They’d tell themselves that January 7, 2025 will be the first day of the rest of their lives and all they have to do is gut out the Trumpism for a few more months.
Elites aside, a Trump candidacy without a formidable opponent like DeSantis might fall somewhere between his 2016 campaign, when he steadily gained strength against divided opposition, and his unopposed 2020 candidacy as an incumbent. Yes, the expectations game might work against Trump in this scenario, but it’s not as if he couldn’t make a comeback. His entire 2024 candidacy represents a comeback from two impeachments, a general-election defeat, a failed insurrection, and whatever prosecutors can pin on him between now and the end of the 2024 election cycle.

Trump was not ready, evident by his inability to comprehend the workings of the Federal Government. Couple that with the multiple bad choices in personnel. I hear that he’s learned but I seriously doubt that. He is too full of himself to learn jack. And unlike the Only Trumpers, I’ll be voting for him IF he is the top of the ticket but not in the primary.
The likely prospect of a POTUS Kamala wil be a huge
vote-loser if 80 yo Biden runs again.

May well be true but if he runs and Kamala is his vp then
it could be a big push among some of the voting groups to
get them elected. I would see it as a big vote enhancer for

registered voters to make the choice. And voting
rules have changed over time for the residents of
the USA. Remember 1492 forward to today......

Considering what he’s done for the country, that is very sad. I can’t imagine anyone disliking someone that much....now if the country had suffered under his presidency, I could see it. But sticking it to your country because you don’t like someone’s style, or because you liked someone else better, well, so much for America being great again.
We need him for ‘28 and ‘32. It will take at LEAST three terms to correct the damage already done by the Biden administration.
Trump will win easily - if we have a fair election. DeSantis would be less likely to have it stolen from him, but only because the Uniparty doesn’t see him as a threat - and with good reason.
