Poll: Donald Trump Expands Dominating Lead over DeSantis to 37 Points
Poll: Donald Trump Expands Dominating Lead over DeSantis to 37 Points ^ | 7 Apr 2023 | NICK GILBERTSON

Former President Donald Trump gained ten points of support among Republicans since his arrest on Tuesday, expanding his lead over Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), according to a hypothetical Republican primary poll.

The Ispos/Reuters poll conducted after Trump’s arrest in Manhattan for a case many conservatives have dubbed “politically motivated” finds that 58 percent of registered Republicans want him as their nominee. DeSantis, who has not announced a candidacy for the race, secures second place with 21 percent of support. No other candidate eclipsed five percent of support.

Another Ispos/Reuters poll taken ahead of the arrest but after the indictment had Trump at 48 percent of support and DeSantis at 19 percent. In other words, Trump has seen a net gain of eight points to his lead over the Florida governor in just a few days’ time.

The race was much closer prior to the indictment. A third poll conducted from March 14-20 had Trump 14 points up on DeSantis, at 44 percent and 30 percent, respectively.

It’s frankly funny to see Breitbart and Trump so hung up on poll numbers now. You know if it’s October 2024 and Biden is crushing Trump in the polls, they’ll suddenly be fake news again.

You really need to change your tagline. It’s very easy to do.

Yeah, his (it’s?) post history doesn’t show much support for Trump, or conservatism....

Any good news for Trump that MSM pollsters admit to is likely real, at least that’s how I look at it. Why would they help Trump? The situation must be dire if they are sounding the warning.

It's painfully obvious DeSantis got bad advice.

Some RINOs pulled him aside and whispered that Trump would get indicted soon and be forced out of the race so he should position himself as the alternative early on and that they (the RINOS) would back him.

It's dirty pool.

DeSantis should have supported Trump from the start and bided his time for 2028. He also owes his constituents in Florida the second term of being their governor they re-elected him to.

“Winning big against a guy who isn’t running.”

I’m starting to agree with you, with now DeSantis below 20%. But the question becomes who rises up above the noise to take DeSantis’s place? Might even be someone, who, like Trump exactly 8 years ago, was not even being talked about.

“Ron DeSantis is not and will not run for President this time.”

Given his collapse at the polls, you’re likely right.

DeSantis never should have waffled on Ukraine. He listened to the GOPe and it hurt him way more than he knows. The base has had its’ fill of that rat money laundering op and it was obvious the party got to him.

I think the GOPe set him up to fail on purpose. The GOPe figured Trump would be taken out by the indictment and they could work on DeSantis themselves. DeSantis is a fool if he thought the establishment would get him to the White House!

DeSantis and the Republican infrastructure and the more knowledgeable insiders may be starting to conclude that 2024 is a lost cause. The media’s long gambit has paid off and Trump has monopolized attention with his antics for so long that there just may not be any other Republican with enough brand recognition. The only thing left to do is let Trump splash around again in a campaign dominated more by his tweeting and personal beefs rather than presenting a coherent unified noncult of personality based conservative vision as usual , get crushed as usual, have his fans cry fraud and do absolutely nothing else as usual. And prepare for 2028

The poll numbers don't count?! Trump only ahead by 37 points!

Can you be anymore ridiculous?

And, change your ID if you're not backing Trump.

I’m with you on this! I thought DeSantis was smarter than this....the GOPe establishment is a GUARANTEED losing proposition! Anyone listening to them will NEVER be President of the current U.S.....take that to the bank!

Translation: DeSantis will be humiliated if he runs and he’d be smart to save his reputation and wait until 2028 to run.
